Here's my setup:
PSU: Antec earthwatts EA500 500w
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P31-S3G REV 1.0
Memory: mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 996553 R
Optical Drive: LITE-ON 20X DVD±R
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 250GB
Video Card: EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR Geforce 8800 GT 512MB
My 1st build went better than expected but when I booted up the system for the first time it listed all the PCI devices, hardware devices, irq's etc but then halts on ACPI controller. When I start it up it still stops on the ACPI controller. I've successfully installed XP Pro and I've done research on the ACPI controller and found that maybe upgrading the MOBO's BIOS or a mem incompatibility could be related to my problem. Haven't got thru to Gigabytes tech support because I’m on hold too long. I've looked up my MOBO and it says it has ACPI 1.0b support. I like using the power saving modes and I think this problem is also related to my comp not turning itself off after telling it to shut down, I have to press the button for it to "shut down". What should I do? I’ve read the manual for updating the BIOS and in warns against flashing the BIOS so I’m weary of doing it.
