ActiveX controls

I have rarely had problems with spyware or malware. I use Firefox but some of the family are happier with IE. I am in the habit of setting the security level of IE to high and I am sure this helps a lot although does slightly limit website functionality.
To effectively block unwanted software download via ActiveX controls which of the various types should I 'disable'?Grateful for any thoughts/comments....

Thank you for the recommendation. Are 'signed' controls always trustworthy, or is it not as straightforward as that...?

It should be Ok, you'll get prompted before downloading, but if you want extra protection, get Spybot SD. Enable the Resident teatimer feature, this will alert you to any changes being made to the registry.

Thanks. I have that in place already. Good to know I'm on the right lines! Many thanks for your suggestions.
