Hi,

Is it possible to have a laptop connected to the internet wirelessly AND make an Ad Hoc network so another laptop can access its internet connection.

Or

Does the laptop that creates the Ad Hoc network have to be hard wired to the router?

Option 2 would be best, then enable internet sharing so you can bridge the connection

Thanks for the reply. I worded it wrong though.

What I want to know is if it is possible to do it the first way. My laptop that has the internet connection is too far away from the router to hard wire it.

When I make an Ad Hoc connection I think I have to be wirelessly connected to it but I have to be wirelessly connected to the router as well to receive the internet. Is there a way to do both?

Your wireless card would have to support WDS....not sure it is possible. You can buy another router and create a wireless bridge between the two.

Yeah it is I've done it before, you just need a crossover cable and to change some settings. What OS are you running?

Why do you need a cross over cable? Almost every NIC is auto detecting these days, and there is hardly ever a need for a cross over cable.

Maybe you don't all I kn ow is that I used a crossover cable :D

In vista go to network and sharing center>manage network connections right click on wireless network connection and click properties and then the sharing tab. Then check the box that says "Allow other network users to connect through this internet connection."
Then just plug a network cable (crossover?) into the port on your laptop and then in to the port on the desktop and it should work.
