Adavantages of Linux?

Advantages

Huge choice of distros to choose from.
Most distros are free.
Most distros provide a Live CD so that you can test it before installing.
Most Linux software is free.
Viruses, spyware, malware etc are not an issue.
Stability!
Extremely customisable.

Disadvantages

Your choice of games is greatly reduced.
Steep learning curve.
Not all hardware is supported (check before install)

There's probably more of each but I can't think right now.

I would recommend Ubuntu.

Word of advice: Choose a distro with a good support community at least to begin with. You will have a lot of questions!
 
Ya I chose Ubuntu but for some reason, I can't boot from the linux CD I made..... I have a new thread about it in Desktop COmputers.....
 
I prefer suse 10.1 but ubuntu is good, and most debian based distros are good. Noteably the apt-get command in debian based distros is really nice.

I also prefer the KDE enviroment and YAST control centers, but thats just my preference.
 
tarklin is right..i also use suse 10.1 but if you're not happy with command line i suggest u use FREESPIRE...its free
 
Oh another advantage of running Linux, is that you are learning how to use it. Which is a good skill to have to put on your resume if you have any sort of computer related job.
