Add Another HD 4870 or just Upgrade

Ive built more computers over the years than I care to recall and im getting too old to keep track of all the benchmarks and latest GPU's.. So I could really use some help.

I just want to be able to play a few games like Deus Ex: HR at 1920x1200 without severe chop. Right now my single HD-4870 just isnt cutting it.

So my option is to either try to find a Saphire HD-4870 and run Crossfire or just upgrade.

Here's what I need to know: Will running 2 HD-4870's provide a dramatic increase in performance over just the one?

Will I have to find the exact same card in order for it to run in crossfire? I know I need a 4870 but I mean same brand (saphire) same amount or RAM and same type of RAM?

System Specs:
Seasonic X750 watt power suply
ASUS M4A87TD Mother B
AMD Phenom II X6 1075T 3.0g
4Gigs DDR3 1600
Windows 7 64bit
Saphire HD-4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5

It would get better framerates, yes. It would be a good idea to get the same amount of RAM. Brand doesn't matter.

What's your max budget for a whole new upgrade?

Price is sort of dependent, since I know its gonna cost more to just upgrade.

I guess Im willing to spend a little extra $ if it would get a more significant value by just upgrading to 1 better card...

I just dont want to spend 2x or 3x the $ to upgrade if im only going to get an extra 5-10% performance increase, ya know.

You don't want to Xfire on that board. Second slot is a south bridge controlled x4 speed. Now normally a X4 slot wouldn't bottleneck a 4870 too much, but going through the south bridge dramatically decreases performance. True Xfire boards have the second slot controlled by the North bridge.

A 6870 is a really great upgrade, probably around double the performance of a 4870, which means stronger than Xfire anyway.

Your totally right! I Forgot my MB didnt have two X16 slots, thanks for pointing that out.

It would, hover a 560 Ti would be an even better option - same performance but cheaper

I dont know... Only because Im seeing the 560TI for the exact same price as the HD6950 and in the benchmarks Im seeing the 6950 consistently outperform the 560ti by 3-7 FPS on most games...
