Add RAM for my Satellite

hi i recently got a new toshiba satellite A215 series (A215-S7413)
it came standard with a gig of ram ( 2 X 512Mb)
i found a 2GB chip which i can get shipped to my house for about $53 shipped. i found using amazon.com as im limited to a certain purchase method.....kinda like credit for the site...but anyway

but the chip is a Kingston which i think is a pretty decent mainstream budget? brand....im not going to be running ultra intensive programs but i will use moderately-heavy programs like flash pro and photoshop CS2 or CS3

i checked the stats of my comp and all the A215 series uses the same setup

heres the chip
2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM

and the link to kingston's website
http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/con...www.valueram.com&ktcpartno=KVR667D2S5/2G&id=1

from what i understand it should be compatible and work fine with my laptop, but the only question is its from the VALUERAM line and not the SYSTEM SPECIFIC so technically its not "made" for my specific computer, but like i said the stats are what is accepted by the motherboard.

so my main question is
1) can u verify this will work
2) will it matter that its not specifically made for my computer

oops i almost forgot...i read that as long as the types of memory are exactly the same...ie clock speed, etc....i can combine them and not suffer the problem of the computer defaulting to the speed of the lowest stick, so i was hoping to place the 2GB stick in one spot and maybe add a 1gb later since i know that 2x2g is pointless since vista only can use like 3.23gb or so.

thanks for the help

It should work fine, as you've already checked it's the same type of RAM your laptop uses. You will have to remove at least 1 stick of RAM already installed though.

yes i understand that...but after installing the 2GB chip...would i be able to leave one 512mb chip (or a 1gig later) and have it run @2.5GB (or later 3GB)
correct?

Yes you can leave it in, it will not run dual channel though (not that would with a single stick anyway)
