Hello,

I have just purchased Maxtor Hard Disk with the following spec:

DiamondMax 10
200GB
8MB Buffer Size
7200RPM

System requirements:
Available Serial ATA (SATA/150) port on motherboard or Serial ATA PCI Card

The HD which I have now is Maxtor 30GB, 7200RPM, 2MB Cache, ATA 100
My Motherboard is ASUS P4B running on Intel P4 1.6GHz and 768MB Ram.

Can I connect this New Hard-Disk and set it as Primary, and keep the existing one as Slave ?

Ok, does the 8MB Buffer Size mean's faster performance "technically", or ?
Its faster than 2MB if thats what you're asking because "faster" needs something to compare to :)

Oh, ya well, thats what I meant in my question actually :)

Ok now folks, before I turn off the PC and begin installing it using the instructions given; what I want to know is;
- it's the first time I actually install a New Hard Disk myself, the most I've done was; replace rams, install new Video Cards, format computer and install windows, so nothing major I guess as installing a new hard disk!
- do you guys think its possible that I could lose existing data on my current 30GB Hard Disk ?
- Do i have to install Windows XP all over again because Windows is now located on a hard disk which I plan to place it as Slave, and run the new Hard Disk as Primary ?
- If you think the process is not that difficult when following the manual instructions for somebody whose knowledge doesn't go beyond formating/re-installing windows and the other minor things mentioned above, what do you advice me outside of User Manual instructions ?

You'll be fine, just power up the box :) Worst case scenario the machine wont boot and you'll just have to go into BIOS say "boot off this other drive instead" :)

hi

yes you will have to install windows again and also you say you are using a sata 150 mobo but the maxtor diamondmax 10 is a sata 2 hdd so if you have any problems getting the hdd to be found in bios or windows say it does not exist that is because your using a sata1 mobo with a sata2 hdd to solve this
you will see a white jumper on the back of your maxtor hdd move it from the right to the left pins this will solve the problem
