Adding an old HD to my rig

Hi everyone. My rig contains a HD with windows 7. I was wondering what would happen if I slotted in an old HD with xp installed on it. Will it be compatable? Will I need to tell my comp which windows to boot? I am planning on simply using the old HD to access files, I was just going to conect it and turn it on. Will that work?

You can't boot to the xp drive as it wasn't installed while inside your system. If you try to boot to it, it will blue screen on your or just reboot.

So if I just hook it up and turn on the machine it will load win 7 as normal but with an extra HD?
 
You will have to check the hard drive boot order in the bios. Sometimes it will boot up to the new drive installed.
