Adding more space to my ps3 slim 12gb model

I have a working 300gb harddrive that fits into the ps3 just fine, but when I try doing a complete ps3 format since its new to me(pawnshop) everthing goes fine till the point when the system needs to format the harddrive, it gets to 100% then says that a error happened. Ive looked online for some guides, and people say it needs to be in fat32 format. Been trying to format but it wont format all 300 gb at best it can format a bunch of 30gb volumes, would that be a problem? Does it have to be one volume?

The hard drive is Toshiba MK3265GSX (305246 mb) (Z:\)
right now its showing up as raw after trying to expand the drive 30 gb at a time

Oh almost forgot! I'm trying to make this into a internal drive for I can download some of my old games I bought on an older model. The flash memory wont even let me download demos.

Quick edit seems to be write protected ima try and see if I can fix that

Can you run any sort of diagnostic on the drive ? I recently shoved a 1 TB 7200 RPM drive into my slim but the process went pretty smoothly. I don't think it even needed to have a partition, just do the USB recovery from the stick and it will provision the drive for you.

Toshiba drives tend to fail pretty regularly anymore. I'm sure thats an older drive as well.

Im reformating it right now so its gonna be a while before I can run the test and yea its pretty old
also hi again john xD

after a few tries to fix it after the drive went raw I cant format the drive anymore

So update I got it to formatt to 32fat and put it in my ps3 went to safe mode and now its been formatting for awhile now so high hopes!

Ok that was a bust It worked at first finished formatting restarted then became corrupted ima try a few more times but looks like this is a no go

Eh fair enough, guess I'll just get a new one. For whatever reason it keeps write protecting itself starting to feel like it's not worth the hassle. Thanks anyway.
