Hello
I will like to add rams soon, but i dont understand much (i read the RAM 101, i did not understand it)

ok, so far, i got 512 MBs, but want to increase up to 1 GB. so, i got 2 slots filled (256MB each i guess) and 2 empty ones. so, if i read right, i can't just add one 512 MB in one slot, i must add 2 identical RAm in each slots, so it will be 256 MB each, right? and they should be the same company, right?

please, just shoot info in, everything that i should know, i need help please
and how much do i expect to pay for those (new)

Chris

The BEST thing to do would be to trash your old chips and stick with two 512M sticks. Otherwise, you could probably get another set of 256M sticks, but it's hard to know if your computer will stay in duel channel or not... Not unless you get another set just like you have already installed.

is it even duel channel? you didn't specify what the specs of the dimm's are. otherwise if both 256mb dimms are the same clock speed etc is the same as getting new 512's it won't be a problem.

Yes you can just add if you like. The question is, will the computer run it in dual RAM mode. This may not even matter to you if you not looking for every last little bit of performance.

First, identify what your motherboard will accept. Up to 1gb or 2gb or even 4gb?

If you want an easy way to approach it, you can go to:
www.crucial.com/systemscanner

It'll help you identify pretty much everything you want to know about your memory and even show you where to buy it online I think.

The whole thing with adding identical and speedwise rams are so that you know you are getting the upmost performance from them. Like for example, if you have a slower speed RAM already in your slot, and you add a RAM with higher speeds, it'll decrease to run accordingly with your slower RAM.

well, i dont know anything about dual...etc...
I am running the test, so i will tell you how much i can have.....
(btw, will the computer manual tell me what mobo i have???)
Chris

ok, the top that i can support is 4096MB. so i can have it so far....still looking tho to know what MObo i have....can anyone help here?

I read that it supoerts PC3200 (400 MHz) /PC2700 (333 MHz) / PC2100 (266 MHz) DDR DIMM type. any idea now if i can add simply 1 512 MB stick ?
