Adding second music stored harddrive

This is the situation:

On computer A I have XP Pro with an SATA hdd, but has E-IDE capabilities (can run both).
On computer B I have XP Home with an E-IDE secondary hdd that has my music stored on it (not the OS).

"What I want to do" is take the E-IDE drive out of B and put it in A, so I can have my music on A. Is it as simple as taking it out of B and putting it in A? What about jumpers? What connector do I use on the flat ribbon for E-IDE? Do I have to do anything in the BIOS for drive order? What if any other things do I need to watch out for?

Any help would be great.

It is that simple.

If the BIOS on computer A is set to boot off SATA first, then there should be no worries about strapping the EIDE drive, though I would put it on its own bus rather than share it with an optical drive, as that might slow access times down.

So do I put it on the end connector of the ribbon or what (I thought that was for Master Drive?)? What do I set the jumper to on the E-IDE drive? Anything else to look out for?

And the optical drive is SATA.

Thanks for the quick response.

Look at the strapping of the EIDE drive. If it is strapped as a slave, then you could strap it either as cable-select or master. If you have it strapped for cable-select, then you will have to pay attention to which connector on the cable you plug it into. Otherwise, it makes no difference.

If the drive is on its own IDE bus, it really doesn't matter whether it is master or slave, but for the sake of consistency (and to ease our mild OCD), make it a master.

I will jump as master and put it on the end connector and report later as to the outcome.

It is on it's own channel. What is strapping? The way the ribbon is connected?

Thanks.

Nothing I tried worked. Tried as master strapped as master on the end connector, as master with cable select on end connector, as slave on second connector. Nothing seems to work. Always just went to Safe Mode screen. It asked if I wanted to "start windows normally", I hit enter key and also tried letting it time out.Tried to run in safe mode as well but when I restarted, it went to the Safe Mode screen again. If I take the drive out, computer starts/boots normally.

What to do next? HELP!

Still need some help here!

Have you gone into BIOS and checked the settings?

Not sure how to get into the BIOS. Which F key is it? When do you hit it? What settings am I looking for? And then what in the BIOS am I looking for? Boot order?

Keep the help coming! I'm still new at this so keep the patience even if it is something easy for you.
