Additonal Removal of Norton Components

I recently uninstalled Norton Internet Security 2006 from my computer because it was like a 3 month trial version that came with the Dell and expired about 2 months ago (dangerous, I know).

Anyhow, I uninstalled Norton, then installed Avast!, and figured all was well in the world. Well, today I had some extra time on my hands so I decided to look up all of the processes (66) my computer has running in Yahoo to find out what each of them are and what they do. I found that two Symantec applications are still running on my computer processes:

+ aluschedulersvc.exe- process belonging to the Symantec LiveUpdate service which updates your Symantec products periodically.

+symlcsvc.exe- application which belongs to Norton's Internet Security Suite, and provides additional security features.

I found the directories to these processes, and found that there is still a Symantec folder on my computer located in C:/ProgFiles/CommonFiles/Symantec Shared (Folder) . The folder has files like virus definitions, help file, some DLL files, etc.

Question is, would deleting this folder from Common Files be safe, and would it prevent these processes from running in the future? Once again, I've already uninstalled Norton, and no longer use it.

Wellllllllllllllllll thanks but I really don't want to install additional software from them when I'm trying to get rid of what's already left on here.
 
Alright, I appreciate the link and the responses. I did download and run the program. The processes are no longer listed, but the folder is still there with contents in the Common Files.

Can anyone tell me if it's completely safe to go ahead and delete this folder and its contents?
 
I experienced this one and applied "Norton Removal Tool" from Symantec. Did you try this? If not and you want to try, I could send you the file :D
 
Yeah, I ran the tool, but it didn't get rid of the folder and all of its contents. I think I'm going to create a restore point and delete the file to get rid of it. Unless someone says otherwise.
 
Aaah you are true. What do you think of manually remove those files and folders? Liveupdate and Symantec are no longer exist, thus those files must be won't work, right? Sometimes uninstalling cannot clean up all things and we need to delete files/folders manually..
 
Yeah, but it also depends on where he's deleting them. OK if their in Program Files, but not OK if you go into Documents and Settings and delete what you THINK that ya dont need. All I can say is, if you manually delete (for example EA Games NFS)from Program Files, Add/Remove programs does the same thing
 
Yeah, those folders were in Program Files.

I checked the folder "LiveUpdate" and it was empty. LiveUpdate cannot run without Norton installed. So I am sure it's ok to delete the folder.

Another folder which cannot be removed automatically was "Symantec Shared" in Common Files. It contains *dll. and specific Norton files. Though these are common files but they copied there when we installed Norton product(s), so I am sure they are ok to be deleted anyways.

I got no problems after deleting them manually. However, if you are doubtful, you can just let them or backup them, zip, or something. Well, it is annoying if we don't want to have a program inside our computer and we still see its traces ;)
 
Thanks for the info guys. YSA that's the exact file I'm talking about. Since you were able to delete it without any adverse effects, I'll do the same.
 
I don't think that CCleaner will see the file.

Simply because SYmantec might still have an Entry in the Registry.
 
I don't know if this would cross the line on what we're allowed to post, but you could make a backup of all your installed media and apps on CDs or DVD, then do a destructive system recovery and get another 3 month trial
