Adobe CS5 Launches Today!

Is this going to be another 2k piece of software? IMO they charge WAY to much for their software they almost price the average joe out of it..

Photoshop CS5 is only $199 if you are in school, or work at a school. The retail cost is around $600-$800. The bundle packages are in the $1600-$2000 range, but include lots of software. Adobe had great educational discounts, most of their software is 80% lower.

I hate Adobe, they can't write an installer to save their own ass, and their DRM is some of the most annoying ever. I really wish a competitor would come and release a better product.

Adobe's Creative Suite is the best in the industry, you are speaking from a deployment standpoint, it sounds like you never actually use CS's programs in a professional environment.

I have used them in a professional environment and I still think they suck. The are good for the end user, but that is it. Any time there is file sharing collaboration, deployment of software and updates to clients, it is like pulling teeth to get that crap to work. All because they are scared my enterprise is pirating their software. If I pay (well my company pays) $80k for 6 site licenses in 6 different buildings, I better be able to deploy it from one central location with ease.

CS 3 was actually pretty awesome at deployment, CS 4 sucks donkey balls. I don't care how professionally awesome it is. They load their products filled of DRM and other crap that make my job impossible. Them and Autodesk can die in a fire.

I agree, deployment wise it's a nightmare, I have to deal with it at my school as well. What I meant by saying that it sounds like you don't use it in a professional environment was that you don't actually use Photoshop for professional reasons (i.e. a photographer). I use it for all my professional photography work and I can say that nothing comes close to it.

I went to art school, studied design and animation, and at one point in time I was quite familiar with all of Adobe stuff. It is a good app, but what I am talking about is, I want their to be competition, so they actually have to strive to make their product better.

Photoshop has come a long way in the past several years.

For anyone interested, here is one of the cool new features of CS5:

Ok so you say you hate Adobe and wishing the competitor would release a better product, by saying that you are saying adobe is best in the market....

This doesn't make sense to me/  LOL

No, I am saying Adobe does certain things their way because there is no competition to keep them in line, or make certain aspects of their product better.

CS 4, is what I have right now, and I do actually use minor photoshop and InDesign, and I taught myself how to use it. Professional? Well, that is debatable. I release technical documents in InDesign with pics, graphs, testimonials, written in chapter format. It looks very professional, but it only applies to system admins, no one else would ever want to read it.

CS is an awesome program, even better than PS imo. Some of the things you can do on that is out of the world. I did use it a bit a long time ago. Lots of potential not many people use it though.

CS is not an individual program, Photoshop is part of CS.
