Advanced Computer People Only, use another computers internet?

I was not sure what to name my title because it is a hard concept to explain.

I am trying to somehow set up my home computer as a server so I can connect to its internet while I am at another location.

I have tried Cygwin and SSH stuff but I can never seem to get it to work.
If anyone could help with with those two products or send to another software for this I would greatly appreciate it!

Yes I have searched almost all of the internet and no one has came to my rescue yet

You need to explain what your doing better, as well as what you have tried and the steps you have taken.
That and posting "advanced computer people only" is a bit odd. You should be open to all suggestions, you'd be surprised sometimes its the simplest thing.

Well I am going to assume you are using Windows, and windows by default does not support SSH, so if you are trying to SSH from a windows box, into a windows box you are going to fail most likely. I haven't used Cygwin in years but I didn't like it when I last used it.

You can use telnet if you are going from wintel box to wintel box. VNC, or remote desktop also work.

You must configure your router to open ports up to your machines too specifically otherwise you will never get past the NAT.

I suggest you google search some key words because there are plenty of already made tutorials out there on setting up remote desktops and remote connections.
 
Behind Linksys WR54GC Router bit opening the ports is no problem.
Using XP

I am basically trying to use my home internet to access internet pages from another computer. I have tried VNC, WinSCP and Cygwin, all which I could not get to work.

I am not trying to have a remote desktop connection but a way to bypass a firewall in a sense.

If I am correct, I believe I should be searching for some kind of way to make a Home Server?
 
I just tried Logmein and I believe it is only a remote desktop connection...
For a remote desktop connection, TeamViewer works a lot better

I am looking for a way to use my computer at homes internet in order to bypass a proxy.

I have been googling this and found something about a SOCKS proxy and that I could use this in Firefox


Had anyone used UltraSurf? That is something similar to what I am looking for, but unfortunately the IP that ultrasurf connects to has been blocked by Websense
 
Someone pointed me into the direction of a program called Proxomitron... anything good?

I think ive figured it out. I need to set up a a HTTP or Socks proxy at my home and use its static IP to connect threw Firefox?
I'm probably no where close to the right thing am I...
 
you want remote desktop so you can control your computer remotely, which would also allow you to surf.

HAHAHA owned as soon as I read this thread I thought of logmein, it's what I use, so simple.

I am putting that as my sig *wipes tear from cheek* thats funny.
It's kinda an inside joke from an experience which is why mostly I think it's funny.
 
I want to be able to have multiple computers to access the web all at once.

What would be the point of buying a router?

I want to be able to go into firefox or a program and directly connect to my internet connection at home (not my computer but the internet) and use its connection to bypass the firewall
Almost the same way a Proxy side connects to a certain IP address to access the blocked websites.

Sounds to me like you are trying to bypass certain security parameters at either school or work, which is not really a topic of discussion this forum allows. I have already pointed you in the right direction, you need to use some sort of VPN or remote desktop software to remote into your computer at home and use it.

It is not too hard to set up and there are probably millions of articles you can find on google how to set it up. I suggest you just go figure the rest of it out.
 
lol i see what hes saying, basicly he's saying that he doesn't want to connect to the computer at home, he simply wants to connect to his internet kind of thing lol not hes internet explorer but use firefox to communicate as if he where at home.... i doubt this is possible but then again, what isn't?

It is quite possible but it would require some leg work which I am not willing to do for free and over the Internet. It is like what Joker said in the Dark Knight, "If you are really good at something never do it for free."

Sounds like this is heading towards a conversation about proxies... And you cannot discuss those here. I would discourage any further discussion.
