advantages of PC vs. console gaming

mention anything you think worthy of this thread.
personally i like the computer mouse... and its my hobby to build computers and have it work so well after im done.
 
Interesting hobby! Just try "checking the mail", having great screen shots, watching dvds, playing your favorite songs, ordering online for upgrades, chatting on a forum like this, etc. with WHAT? an X-Box or Playstation 2? :eek:! No thank you there! Besides you get to get familiar with a complete industry with certainly far superior graphics seen in games. :D

yea i mean my friends got an XBOX 360 and it cant even run BFME2 on high quality... while ive got like FSAA running which is completely unnecessary! i was stunned.... how much memory does an xbox 360 have like 512mb? thats ridiculous... and it was LAGGING! like wuts up with that dude
 
I like the 360, contrary to popular opinion, but, the highest resolution they support is only like somethingX1080! i can turn my up to insane resolutions and whatnot... thats a major decider, along with the mouse, why didnt MS let it have drivers for USB mice? that seems like a major downer.
 
I am totally for PC gaming but you gotta see it as this, People that run games on high settings on their PC prolly paid more for their PC than what a console costs.
Also, some games are just more fun with a controller. I'm definitely getting a Wii as a secondary gaming system.
 
X-Box, PlayStation, Nitendo, whatever doesn't need a high amount of anything like "Memory". You simply plug it into your tv. You are talking about two different workds when trying to make a comparison there. With the pc on the desktop you need not only memory but good "video and sound" alike along with a fast cpu and plenty of... "Cooling". PS2 and X-Box alike simply plugs and lugs.

Actually consoles have just about the same kind of components computers have. They have CPUs, memory, graphics cards, power supplies, cooling, some even have hard drives. Heck there was an issue with the early xbox360s where the system would overheat and crash just like computers can do. The TV is basically the same as your monitor. especially with HDTV that have resolutions similar to computer monitors. The consoles even use graphics cards made by ATi and nVidia. Consoles also can suffer from slow framrates and people have even put oprating systems on their Xbox.

Since when can't you get a controller for use on a pc? Have a look.

http://www.xbox-modchips.com/ is one possible Canadien site found. Obviously in recent years gaming systems have moved closer to the pc for the versatility offered there. The reason gaming system have steady frame rates and other things is that you can't really OC those much. Plus pcs are a little bit more involved then a gaming system even though it has been made to be more crossplatfomed. Tweaking softwares as well as hardwares does have a tendency to be an art form at times. But that's what makes pcs far more interesting then... the next number on a gaming box.
 
I have a PS2 that died a few months ago (I think the motor died), and so I have just the computer to run stuff on now... As for me, there definitely are some good games for the PS2, but the big thing for me is the ability to have replayability. Out of the twenty to thirty games that I have for the PS2, there really are only 2 that I want to play again (after finishing them). For the PC, there probably are twenty to thirty games that I like to go back and play over and over. I like the fact that there seems to be a lot more games released for the PC, and that sometimes you can get them for as little as $20 without having to see if it will sell a million copies...
 
The reason consoles have such low specs compared to PC's, is because since they hardware doesn't change, game programmers can create code based directly around those components. Which is the reason why the Xbox can play Halo 2 so well, considering how poor the specs are, and with only 64MB of memory.
 
What in the world is this Wii I am seeing all over the Forum? What does Wii mean?
And all most all of the Xbox game are not compatible with XBox360. Yup that's right, almost completely non backwards compatible.
 
PC gaming is way better... cus it is more customizable and getting around games and game settings is more convenient...


and you can do WAY more on a PC...

I have to agree with this totally from seeing how limited the early game consoles were despite advancements over the years. With a pc you can even go back in time to 1988 to run an 8bit game through DosBox on an XP desktop.

definitely... i mean they have all diff. games for consoles and the controls always change!! with the pc... oblivion set "e" for jump and "space" for action... whereas all other games are the other way around... i simply switched the two in control options... not to mention i can customize my mouse with all the buttons on it... i set my side scroll to throw a grenade in halo awhile back... even though i never play it anymore lol...
not to mention all the other capabilities a computer has! burning dvds, listening to music.. though my friends xbox 360 can play music also... you can surf the internet and do all kinds of hard drive upgrades and stuff with computers...

yea, but you can turn quality down for lower quality computer hardware... and MUCH higher than any gaming system can go for higher end computers. not to mention... you can upgrade a computer and have the latest hardware (and therefore support the latest graphics) right when it comes out!

I think the main difference is that ease that comes with a console. With a console you dont need to worry about system requirements, drivers, overheating (ok the 360 had little overheating problems) or anything like that.
 
A gaming system is simply a consumer ready gaming system with a limited list of games developed for the particular model. That's kind of like getting a new Linux distro because it's the "flavor of the month". But the next month(newer model) comes along with something else to look at. Gee? Do I now toss my PS2 because X-Box or Nitendo came out with some new glamour? I'll stay with upgrading pc hardwares on occasion over the latest gameboy disposible with limited variety.

Nothing at all because it's all in pieces(watch the dimensions, stretching the forum isn't exactly fun to see).
