ADVC-55 and computer

I'm using the ADVC-55 converter (i grabbed it from school, as i don't have a video capture card) to put some videos on my computer. I'm using it with Windows Media Maker, which it says that it works with, but how do i use it? There are no drivers. WMM does not see it anywhere, and the capture video link does not detect it. It is plugged in, the light is on, and i have video input into it. any ideas?

ok i rebooted my computer and i got the little bubble and it showed that it detected a new device, and said it was ready to use, but both WMM and Nero do not see it. I'm really out of ideas here; i've never used a driverless firewire device before.

Thanks for the link! :)

Do you have access to any of the other programs listed, like Adobe Premiere, should give you much better results than Movie Maker. And I assume you are using the 6 pin to 6 pin cable as well? Also do have the DIP switches set to option #1? That should give you the preferred PAL/NTSC setting.

Here's a link for some some reviews/suggestions:

The DIP switches are all set correctly. (I don't know if i want PAL or NTSC, but i figured it really doesn't matter) Yes, it is a 6 pin to 6 pin cable.

I've read that site many times and I still can't get anything more from it.

I don't have access to any other programs on my computer. At school we use Final Cut Pro, but I have trouble working on Macs, so that's why i brought it home.

The unit is quick and easy to set up, with no disc driver installation being required on any machine at any stage; both Windows XP and Mac OSX have no problems with seeing the device in the same way it would a DV or Digital-8 camcorder.
This supposed simplicity is what makes me think it is broken in some manner. Because it certainly has not done that.

What do you guys suggest I do? Send it back to them? It's a 3 year warranty, but we might have a little trouble finding the documentation and such to go with it.

Or is there something that I'm missing?
