Advice for my computer plz

This is the first time that I'm building a computer and I must say, when you are new to this, it's pretty complicated.

So here are the parts I think would be good in the gaming computer I'd like to build:

Video Card: PNY GeForce GTX 470 - 1280MB GDDR5 - PCIe - mini-HDMI/Dual DVI
CPU: INTEL Core i5 670 / 3.46GHz / DMI / LGA1156 / 4MB Cache
Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D-E Premium : Intel P55 Express Chipset
RAM: KINGSTON ValueRam DDR3-1333 - 3 x 2GB - CL9
Hard Drive: WESTERN DIGITAL VelociRaptor 150GB / SATA II / 10K RPM / 16Mb Cache
DVD: LITEON iHAS124 - DVDRW - 24X Dual Layer - SATA - BLACK OEM
Additional Fan: COOLERMASTER Hyper 212 Plus (Multiple Sockets)
Monitor: VIEWSONIC VX1962wm - 2ms - 6000:1 - 19" - 1680x1050 - DVI, VGA (Speakers)

I have a few questions about that.
First: I saw on another website that I needed a CPU cooler (the additional fan), is it really necessary?
Second: I'm really confused about video cards, is this one anygood?
Third: I heard that I needed a 10K RPM Hard Drive, but is a 7200 enough? It would reduce the cost a little.
Finally, If you have any other ideas, I would gladly take them, but keep in mind I would like it to be under 2000$ (In Canadien money). I COULD go a bit over, but i'd prefer not.

CPU - core i5 670 not worth the money. Get core i7 860

RAM - Get 2 x 2GB or 4 x 2GB. Have a look on DDR3 1600 if the price difference is not great.

Video card - I recommend ati 5850 instead. It is slightly slower than GTX470, however, it is cooler and with less power consumption

Cooler - consider scythe mugen 2. Good budget heaksink. If you not overclock, just use stock heatsink

HDD - WESTERN DIGITAL VelociRaptor not worth the money. If you want it faster, get SSD. Or just get samsung F3/ seagate 7200.12/ WD Caviar black

monitor - Personally would go for 1920 x 1080 resolution.

What case and PSU are you going to use?
 
7200 will be fine and is what most people use

you will need a cpu cooler and heatsink but if your buying the i5 new these items should alreadly be install

the gtx 470 is a good the only two that are better are the gtx 480 and the hd 5970 the gtx 470 will pull good frame rates in todays modern games check here for a review the next lower card is the hd5870 which is also good and will be cheaper

the i5 is a good choice you may want to spend a bit more on the ram and get some corsair or ocz or something like that i would link you some but i dont know any site for canada and i dont think newegg ships there

it may be worth using an lga1366 mobo as when the price comes down you can get a hex core i7 but that will cost more and i think intel are gonna phase out the use of both sockets for sandy bridge anyway
 
Sprry, I forgot about the PSU. I was thinking about the ANTEC TruePower New 550W. But actually, I really don't know how to see if this one is good enough or not. Also, I wanted to now: How do I know if I overclock? (Ok, I know it's a lot of questions and I'm sorry for being a newb) XD
 
the i5 contains something called turbo boast which will automatically overclock the cpu saftely when required and then drop it down to normal speed after

otherwise you will have to manually over clock using the computer bios which is what you see on startup before windows loads, i believe you can also oc using software on the os but ive never tried it.

be warned overclocking can be dagerous and can burn your cpu out if done wrong.

your not likely to need to overclock unless you want to squeze that little bit of extra perfomance out of the cpu which i dont think youll need for quite a while

you may want to go for a more powerful psu as gtx 470 i believe requires a minimum of 550watt supply

Last question (I hope): Should I use Vista or Windows 7 for my OS?
 
id say use windows 7 nice interface and overall much improved version of vista, much quicker better at multitasking, better at managing resources, vista is bearable but i dont like it
