My system is,

  • System Name: OPTIPLEX-CE1579
  • System Model: OptiPlex 745
  • System Type: X86-based PC

The system specifications are,
OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600
Processor: x86 Family 15 Model 6 Stepping 5 GenuineIntel ~3391 Mhz
RAM: 2,048.00 MB
Graphics: Intel(R) GMA 3000, Intel Corporation compatible

I've already been to a website called "Crucial upgrades" and I've found out I can upgrade my RAM to 8GB providing my Operating System is compatible,I have 4 slots in total which can hold up to 2GB DDR2 each slot. I'm currently using 2 slots with 1GB in each slot.

Scan results

Basically, I want to know what I could change to upgrade my system, I'm looking for advice on the Graphics card, the Processor and the RAM memory. Also note: I'm not a gamer, I just want to upgrade if I can.

your OS is likely to be 32bit, it won't support 8GB RAM. So add another 2 x 1GB make it to 4GB in total is what you need to do.

In what way you feel the machine being slow? adding more ram may not solve the problem. You may need to upgradee cpu

I know it won't support 8GB because of the Operating System being 32 bit, which is why I'm going to upgrade to a 64bit XP edition. Nothing is slow, everything I'm doing runs 100% without fault, it's just that idea of upgrading as much as possible.

Install cpuz (and the other 3 if you wish as they are good tools). Run cpuz and post a screenshot with all tabs except 'cashe' and 'about'. This will supply info about your MB, current cpu, memory, and gpu. Also pls state the model and wattage of the psu, and case form factor.
