advice needed for PDA repair

For about a year and a half my pocket loox 420 PDA has been a trusty companion. As an engineer, it’s a vital tool in my line of work and as an adventurous traveler, its kept me entertained on long journeys. I just got back from a week in Austria where I was enjoying some Alpine rock climbing and canoeing with some friends. We went over on the bus so as you can imagine, it’s a pretty long journey from Newcastle in England. 27 hours non-stop to be exact so I took my PDA, along with heaps of SD cards packed with games, mp3’s and Simpson’s episodes.

Near to the end of the week, I was in my apartment, lifting my rucksack up to the hook on the door when my PDA slid out and hit the floor. Obviously, this didn’t bode very well with the LCD in that it is cracked in several places and no longer functions. Unfortunately, my holiday insurance does not cover damage to personal items so the only thing I can think of is either to replace or repair it.

Like I say, I’m an electronics engineer and feel confident in repairing the PDA myself if I can get my hands on a replacement LCD. Doing the job myself will no doubt save me money, its simple enough. I’ve tried looking on CPC.com but they don’t seem to have an LCD for my model…it was a long shot. It’d really be appreciated if anyone could suggest a place to purchase such an LCD, for a fujitsu siemens pocket loox 420.

So as I understand it, you just want replace the LCD. Chance are there could be more of a problem than just that, and it me be less costly to just buy a new on. You could however check for spare parts and the like on Ebay.

Actually, being all solid-state(or does this one have some harddrive?) Eh, but yeah solid-state stuff shouldn't get damanged from a fall unless it's actually cracked or something. If you could find a replacement screen, it should be as good as new. Also, the...crap, I keep forgetting what it's called... The touch-screen part. That should still be ok, if you can remove it from the LCD.

See, I used to have a Dell Axim, and probably the most common post on this forum I went to was how to replace the LCD ;) Most people would look on ebay for LCDs and such. There were also some sites people knew about that sold the stuff or actually repaired it(not that you'd need that) I beleive it was just the axim, but I don't remember the site either way, sorry...

Have you tried asking on a PDA forum, perhaps on based around yours? SOmeone might have a link for you.

Best bet would be to find a broken one on ebay with a screen that's intact and just do some butchering and replace it. And like The Other One said, if it's all solid state (no HDD's or moving parts) the rest of it should be ok.

the other one are you talking about tablets?
Don't think he was.

http://www.aximsite.com/ maybe?

Tablets work in different ways than a PDA. Tablet PC's and drawing boards require the pen, correct? PDA's simply work by pressure(so you can use your fingers and such) That little touch screen that goes over your LCD typically doesn't break. I beleive for the Axim, it was about $45 for one, so that would save you a bit of money...

Aximsite is one place I used to go to, and I beleive where I saw most of the quests about repairs...
