Advice on a buy

I have a friend wanting to sell me his custom built computer for $550. As someone who does not know much about computers I don't want to pay to much.

I'm selling off a very well maintained custom PC created by me. It has excellent specs and is well suited to gaming, media, storage, movies, music, and anything else - I use it for all of those purposes. It will come with a brand new Windows XP Professional SP3 install and all of my PC games which will be listed below. It is also very quiet as that was always very important to me - loud fans are distracting when gaming or listening to music.

If someone could take a look at what is included and let me know their opinion that'd be great.

Thanks

CPU - AMD Opteron 165 - 2.7GHz
RAM - 2GB DDR450

CD / DVD - (1) 16x DVD 48x CD reader (2) NEC 3540 DVD+/-RW DL DVD and CD burner
Network - Netgear wireless 802.11g 54mbps
Card reader - SD, Compact Flash, MSProDuo, etc
Case - Antec P160 w/ custom 120mm side panel fan - always kept cool and quiet!

We can give you a price range but you can't sell on here until 100 posts (as far as i know)

I would say around $400 AU...

This has to be in the "Computer Equipment For Sale" section and you have to have 100posts to do so.

im not to sure guys but what i gathered from his opening statement he is lookin at buying that pc and wants to know if its a good deal.. i think u need to actually look at what u guys are readin before posting.

It is an older generation system, but it comes with a monitor. What uses would YOU have for it specifically? What type of games would you be playing, if any?

That system is a decent deal for $550 IMO, but only because of the monitor and a few of the extras. Make sure windows xp has the original disc, and just isn't installed. I would see if he could go down to $500 lol.

Agreed, people need to read posts all the way through here.

It's an OK deal... but I'd go custom and get something along the lines of my rig, and a LCD. CRTs are worthless and too big these days...

I am a web designer and I just want to do everything on one computer. Originally I thought it was a good deal if I just wanted to do that, but know you guys are talking me out of it haha.

This isn't for sale! People are so quick to find a newbie who posted a price and specs, and assumes he wants to sell here.

As for the computer, no it's not a good deal, all of those parts are several years old. You can buy one similar to the one in my sig for around $650. By the way, did he tell you that the monitor is the best gaming monitor? It's a CRT, I would go with an LCD.

i think its ok deal because of the monitor and the extras and if its a legit xp with a cd and key that will save him a 100 right there, yes u can build better, but also it will cost more to get a decent screen and a good spec of a comp for web designer i think that comp would be perfect.. and crts i prefer to game on i believe i also read somewhere that alot of peope prefer to game on crts. but its all opinions and yes as i said people need to read before they post useless shit.. offer him 450 cash and see if he takes it
