advice on a linux build

I'm considering building a basic computer that I would install Ubuntu as my only OS. My plans would be to have it next to my main computer. I would be sharing my monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers between the two. Along with all the componets that I get any replies on, I understand that I'll be needing a KVM switch. Speaking of the KVM switch, will it be able to share my speakers along with the monitor, mouse and keyboard. I'm looking at a budjet around $500.00. I'm talking Case, MB, RAM, PSU, CPU, HD and whatever. I will not be doing any gaming at all, just your basic surfing, and e-mail.
I'm sure that I might get some suggestions to just partition my HD and put the OS on it. I thought about it, but I've just got an itch to do another build.

Thanks for any replies.

h77 board, 8 gig ram, dual core pentium or i3, cx430 or cx500, antec 302, 320gb hdd, and a dvd rom drive. should be around 500 depending on what you do.

You could build two machines capable of the purposes you've listed for $500, IF I were in your shoes, I would either buy another SSD and install Ubuntu on it, or I'd make upgrades to my current system.
