Advice on buying a new hard drive.

I want to buy a 2nd hard drive for my computer as i have filled 80gb with films/music etc. I have seen a 160gb on ebay for £40 but they say they cant specify 5400 or 7200 rpm.
What difference would it make and since i only really need more memory to store more films would it be a problem to get 5400 rpm?

Obviously 5400rpm is slower, I'm a bit worried by the fact that the vendors won't specify what speed they would give you. And yes it'd be "won't" rather than "can't".

The difference would be slower transfer speeds. If you're looking to play films/music on your pc from the drive, there would be no noticable difference since you'd be playing the files in real time.

Personally I'd make sure I had a 7200 drive, and that the person I was buying from wasn't being coy.

well, i dont trust ebay thats all. u can get better deals on rebates at retail computer stores. i got my 250gig WD 7200rpm for only 100. could have gotten it for 80, but ran out b4 i got there. LOL. where do u live anyways?

go check out tigerdirect.com , they usally have deals on hdds , but you probaly wouldnt notice the difference if you were just going to use the drive for storage. but depending on what ur willin to pay , u could probaly get a better drive off of a computer store or somthin

You still sure you want to buy it? ;) Also have a look at the amount of cache it has :)

EDIT: um ya... afaik there are no 5400rpm 160GB drives....
