Advice on my build please?

Planning to build my first ever PC, a gaming rig.

Don't plan to overclock or run SLI.

Here's what I know I'll buy:

- E6600
- Geforce 8800 GTS 640
- Antec 900 or P180 case (or any case that is quieter without giving up cooling properties)
- Gigabyte Motherboard though not sure which: 680i? P35? P35 with future DDR3 support? P35 with 1066 ram support? I think I want to get a P35 motherboard so that in the future I can upgrade to DDR3 and Quad Core. Just too pricey right now. Sound like a good idea?
- 2 x 1 1024 ram - I may get 4 gigs. Just not sure which brand and if I should get 1066 (8200) or 800 (6400) based on the motherboard I get.
- 32gig or 72gig 10k RPM raptor
- PSU - i have no idea what PSU to get. Any recommendations based on the above?
- do I need additional cooling?
- 64 bit version of Vista? But I hear the 64bit isn't widely supported (not many drivers or apps that support it or something). But my plan was to get 4 gigs of ram but XP Pro (what i have now) won't recognize it, only 64 bit Vista. What to do? Just get 2 gigs and plan on adding 2 more in the future?

Thanks for any advice/recommendations/suggestions! Much appreciated. First time I've ever done a build.

I plan to play games at max settings (dynamic lighting and all ) at 1440x900 res (my current flat panel 19" samsung). BioShock.. Age of Conan (Oblivion type graphics).... etc

stick with the P35 if you're looking ahead.
i suggest 800 RAM for the same reason (i use Corsair and have no problems)
32bit Vista instead of 64 (support like u said)...or XP if you want the extra resources Vista steals
i would say stick to 2 - 2.5GB of RAM...4 is real nice but to me (opinion) seems like overkill

Good luck on the build. The first time is the most exciting...for everything ;) haha

Thanks for the input hNic.

Now I'm thinking - instead of E6600 - since I'm going to get a P35 - shouldn't I just wait til July 22nd and get the Q6600 ? It's going to be like $250 or so, just a few higher than the E6600.

Makes sense right?

the q6600 is making me jealous i'm not building right now lol
PERSONALLY i would go with the q6600 (for the 8mb of L2 cache)

i'm startin to think a new build could be on the horizon lol

LOL I hear ya.

I am going to go for the Q6600 and set myself up for the future a little OR grab the E6600/E6700 at an even better price. Not sure.

I'm going to get the WD Raptor 10k rpm 16mb cache. Even though 1.5 g/sec I hear they tear it up better than 7200 16mb 3g/sec counterparts!

But I am not sure which PSU to get? Since i only plan to have 1 8800 GTS 640, and don't plan to overclock, I'm not sure what to do.

And Motherboard. I am going to get a gigabyte mb, just not sure 650, 680 or P35.

32bit Vista instead of 64 (support like u said)
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT get Vista 32-Bit. You are wasting your money if you do.

There are no compatibility issues that I have ever run into, that run on Vista x86 but not Vista x64. If you did get Vista x86, then you would need to upgrade again when you want to use 4GB or more of RAM, or want to use 64-bit apps and games when they become more available.

Every device I have in my computer has 64-Bit drivers available for it.
