Advice on new gaming computer build

My budget is 1400 and this is what I've came up with.

Total is: $1,324.92 with shipping.

Is that a good build? Any parts you guys would change or not recommend?

I've already got a Megahalem from a different build that I'll be using on this one. Also would like some ideas on some gadgets I could throw into those 5.25 bays.

You can save some money by getting the haf 922 it is actually the same size as the 932 and it's 10pounds lighter. Also the WD caviar blue drives are a little on the slow side for an OS. Get WD Caviar Black or Seagate 7200.12 for your OS and use the Caviar blue/green for storage.

Was going to put the 4 in raid 0 as I have an external hard drive so I don't really need a ton of space. I figured 4 cheaper slower drives over a two faster drives would be better. Also looking at the 922 and the 932, the 932 may be heavier, but its got the better fans which is kind of what I'm looking for, large fans that move a lot of air but don't create as much noise, unless I was misinformed as to how size, loudness, and air flow are related.

I wish WD made caviar blacks in a smaller capacity..640GB is way more than I need :(
Btw I don't really trust Seagate drives, they always seem to have a really high failure rate.

If you want speed and don't need much space just get a SSD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139004 or a 15K RPM drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145243. Then you can get one of those WD Caviar Blue to go with it for storage. The SSD will give you better speed then raid 0 plus save you the trouble of raid and the SSD + the Caviar will be about the same price. The 15K RPM drive will be about the same as raid 0 but again it will save you the trouble of raid and the 15k RPM + Caviar Blue comes out to around the same price.

If you where to put the same system in a haf 932 and 922 and compare them. I highly doubt you would see any difference in temps.

15k RPM would probably be too loud for my liking, and I thought SSDs were only good when you bought the expensive ones?

I'll do a little more looking into 932vs922.

Well I doubt your gonna hear anything over those 4890 fans they are pretty loud. The amount a product cost has nothing to do with how good it is. Kingston is a good brand and they make very good SSD. I have used that one in 4 builds now and I can easily tell the difference in speed when windows and games where loading.

Really? The 4890 fans are that loud? They aren't like the 4870s where you can't really hear them till you get up to 50%?

You should never keep your GPU fan below 60%(shout still be pretty quite) mine is always at 75%. All of your case fans are going to be quite so any thing louder then them is going to stand out. That stock CPU cooler is going to be louder then the cards fan.

Really? That seems a bit overkill.. I have my 4870 set at 50% and it stays nice and cool and barely audible.

I'm still stuck on the hard drives though..

I would stick with the 4 drives in Raid 0 but go with these harddrives instead : Western Digital RE3 320GB. Running these will result in a very stable raid setup that is also extremely fast. I have the RE2 model and with the 4 I average 280mb/s read of the drives.

As for the fan on the card I set mine at 33% for desktop use and 65% for gaming. Thats even with the terrible cooler that they have on these 4870x2's.

5770s are actually cheaper than 4890s and they're faster too. Was glad I noticed that.

4890: Core: 850 Memory: 975 Cheapest price: 185 with free shipping

5770: Core: 850 Memory: 1200 Cheapest price: 160 with free shipping

Everything looks perfect. I thought this might interest you http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.270577. That is almost the same cost of the motherboard and 955 separate. Buy that combo and you get the 965 for a few dollars more.

Wow, nice find. Added it.

I've been kind of oblivious to the RAM I picked, I don't really know much about DDR3 so.. If someone could look into it, I've still got another 40 or so dollars left with the current build plus the current RAM I have. Which is 89.99, so I technically have 130 for RAM, seems a bit overkill to be spending that much on it though..

Great news, I just got an extra 400 dollars to throw into this build. :D

I'm thinking I'm going to change out the case and get that new Corsair case, a long with some good fans. Dunno what else to change? Maybe some 5850s instead of 5770s?

Yea either switch to the 5850s or go back to the 4890 the 5770 arnt even as good as a 4870. As for RAM go with something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146871 some of the best DDR3 on the market.

BTW +1 on the corsair Obsidian if you are looking for some good 120mm fans for it go with the Cooler master R4's.

Hm, right you are.. I'm going to get 140mm fans, know of any good ones?

Thats a very nice AMD build man. I would look into triple monitors and a second 5850 down the road for the ultimate experience. Check this article out, it shows some cool features of Eyefinity.
