Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.01.2600 Service Pack 2

now i was wondering if this is a half decent base to start upgrading and if so what upgrades would people recommend, or would i be better starting from scratch and building a new pc??

I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to PC's so any information people can provide would be great. Thanks.

John

this looks to that you have a prebuilt system as of right now. Attempting to upgrade the units in there would be kinda like trying to install a turbocharger on a yugo running on 3 cylinders(kinda like trying to upgrade the components in my pc).

I believe you'd be better off and happier building a new pc.

You would be better of building a new computer, but if that isn't an option right now (for it to be worth it, you're looking at about $1,000+), you want to look at upgrading things like RAM (another 512mb or 1gb) and the graphics card. Other than that, you're looking at building a whole new computer...

well my plan was to just upgrade my current comp if i had a half decent base to upgrade but i think now i will just build a new comp.

If it's gaming you're after, on a tight budget, there would be a huge benefit to upgrading that video card and perhaps adding another 512MB RAM. You wouldn't be able to get high quality settings, but games would at least be playable.

For under $500 or so, upgrading the video card, memory, and PSU would be a possible option. However, I wouldn't spend more than $500 before considering building a newer computer.

ooh, I know what you mean man, I had to try to find memory for an HP, and OMG, it's like pulling teeth. You'd think they would have it directly listed in the website and keep track of your serial number to tell you what specs your PC has. And I finally found it DDR 266, and I was still edgy.
