Advice on whether to buy this tower

The tging is, that motherboard doesn't support overclocking too well. You might be able to get a small OC out of it, but anymore and the motherboard will overheat.

You really need to stop just spouting stuff to people just because of stuff you've read in one place online. I've got that board and I was able to run a pretty nice overclock from 3.2GHz to 4.0GHz on a Phenom 955. Those boards are pretty solid. I ran that overclock for about a year and this is a processor that already runs at 125 watts, the max TDP for that board. You don't want that board if you're wanting to push your processor to the absolute max, but it is by no means bad for overclocking and should treat you well for mild to moderate overclocking.
 
Point taken. But I wouldn't really call 800 MHz much of a OC, as it was only a quite mild voltage increase I assume?

The 970A-G46 will OC just as good as the GA-970A-UD3 that's often recommendend, but it's almost half the price. And in a $500 build, that's a value that can't be beat.
As for the RAM, I would choose 1x8GB Corsair over 2x4GB Team Vulcan any day. Performance wise, 99% the same. Quality wise, Corsair all the way. Lifetime warranty, doubt Team Vulcan has that. Also leaves room for another 3x8GB stick in the future, giving you a total 32GB vs 16GB potential RAM.
And 800MHz OC on Phenoms is decent, as Denther points out, they are often 125W TDP with quad cores.
