Advice please on finetuing an old pc for newer games?

One of my more computer suave aquaintances is a pro at this, he managed to get diablo 2 to work on a crappy pentium 2 somehow. o.O

I was really just hoping someone could give me a few pointers on what I could tweak.

Cheers, Blue!.

The point is, how old is your hardware. If you have a geforce MX440, then no matter how much you overclock it, it will not run Doom 3 at 1024x768 with decent frame rates, as I sadly found out years ago. :( If you want to play current generation games, then you need to spend the money. If its low-ended hardware, then it will have high-ended performance no matter what you do with it.

Diablo 2 isnt that intensive of a game, im not that surprised it could run on a PII.

The ways to increase performance is to overclock your video card and processor, but as elitehacker said, if your video card is really low end, even overclocking it wont make much of a difference.

I find that overclocking my geforce MX440, I gain about 600 more in 3D mark 01SE, but in terms of real world performance I can't tell.
