Who told you that crap ?

Pentium is a processor line not a production company , it's produced by Intel.
AMD is a production company not a Processor line :)

Which AMD ?

It doesn't depend on the processor only
there are many factors and a major one of them is the video card.

i wouldnt go with an AMD or a pentium.
haha in fact, an e6300 is being shipped to my house as we speak.. YESS FINALLY
yea, you'll need a better video card. you could have a 10ghz processor but you'll still need a dedicated video card. like my 7800gt - ill sell you it. haha

Depends on your budget. Not everyone can afford the new Core 2s. AMD used to make the best processors for gaming (especially the old 64 FX-57, which is what i wanted when i seen it in a mag around the time of its release). But Intel has now jumped ahead of AMD, so the new Core 2 would be a good choice, but if you cant afford that, then maybe the FX-50 or 57 would be a good choice, both would be awsome with games.

lol on a technicality AMD made the best processors altogether. i think AMD's representatives put it like this... hyperthreading is just a temporary solution. of course, you are right, not everyone can afford core 2's. i definitely suggest picking one up if you've got the money, but a better video card would definitely be beneficial.

Intel has now jumped ahead of Intel...Yeah...cuz Pentium D's and P4's sucked.

Uh... not totally. P4's yes kinda sucked. Though they had great ability to overclock. Same with pentium d's. Great little overclockers for the price range before amd's price drop. Still the pentium d 805 is one of the BEST procs per price.

pentium 4's had great ability to overclock. funny how pentium d's compared to core 2 duo's are only SLIGHTLY off in overclocking ability, by less than 1ghz. not to mention a core 2 duo has MUCH higher performance per clock, and MUCH higher maximum potential. in fact, athlon 64 X2 has much higher potential. keep in mind AMD is still using 90nm technology. if they switched to 65nm or even lower, they could easily put out procs 3.2ghz or 3.4ghz and even higher than that.

overall, i DEFINITELY wouldnt go with a pentium, and id go with an athlon X2 as a second choice, but there's no beating the core 2 duo in todays standards of overclockability, or cool operation if you arent overclocking.

yea, the Core 2 OCs way better then ANY P4, and considering it performs alot better when OCed, where as the P4 didnt increase a great amount with a huge OC. My Northwood at 3.54ghz was not much faster then it was at 2.66ghz. Its a great OC, but wheres the performance to match it? There wasnt even a difference in gaming at all, there was in benching, by about 10-50 3DMarks tops. The only thing that REALLY increased with the OC was my memory bandwidth, it went from stock 2gb/s to almost 4gb/s.

There wasnt even a seconds difference in performing Super Pi 1M. Which was stock and OCed 47 seconds.

And you do relize that very few, none that i know of, games use both cores? Cuz games only use one thread. Some, and VERY few games have dual core patches. I think Far Cry has one.........im not 100% on that though. Dual cores are not meant for gaming anyway. They will perform fine, but thats not really what they are made for.

That's what they arebeing made for. To increase performance for the future. Have you noticed most high end dual cores are performing better in games verses single core? It doesn't matter if most games can't use both cores right now. The dual cores today are outperforming every single core known.
