hi all,
i was done over by a link to a 'picture' someone told me about on msn... as soon as i realised what was going on i pressed the computers reset button, but Trend Micro internet security 2006 keeps telling me theres a file left that it cant remove.

All of the items you've mentioned are programs that i've intentionally installed and use.

Are you sure theres nothing else suspicious in there?
 
HiJack This is a fast tool for finding new startups and IE addons typical of adbots, browser hijackers, and other things that are in certain parts of the system registry. It doesn't perform a full scan of the registry or system for that matter. The items there are in need of fixing while not being serious.

Trojan downloaders, viruses, and other malwares can easily be hidden in plain sight in places like the root of the hard drive or mixed in with system files. On an XP system you wouldn't expect to see anything with the "exe" file extensio on it. But something like that if found at the root of C is how some trojans work without creating registry values. Thay simply load along with Windows and download other "things". I could recommend a few antivirus and antispyware tools for scanning your system for anything like that.
 
I know that the items PCEye has pointed out are not bad, i use all of them!
Is there anything else in the log that looks suspicious?

If it helps, This is the message that keeps coming up, and the file is located in a folder that i cant access - as administrator or not, i just cant access it!

C:\System Volume Information\_restore{.....}\RP197\A003708.exe

does the .\_restore{.....}\ part mean that its in the system restore info? would deleting past restore points be a possible solution?

Just flush the restore folder by going to 'Control Panel/ System/System Restore' and check the box ' Turn off system restore on all drives' click 'apply' and 'okay'.Reboot your computer and then enable system restore again and create a 'New Restore Point' by going to 'Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore'.
 
If there are any restore points "bugged" that will take of them. That's a usual way to insure that you are not reinfected after cleaning a system with a zapped RP. One excellent tool for creating fresh restore points is called SetPoint where you can make some two dozen a day if you want manually.

It's a retail program put out by Easydesk Software. For someone with a more vulnerable system that can be a big help when they zinged by a worm and need to have several new points made in a shorter period of time.
