I needed more space and I bought a new HDD from newegg this here is it

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073

You see, I haven't been up to date on the latest hardware, last time I checked GForce 6800 Ultra was the best thing around for gpu's I believe that was around 2005.

Well in any case I went to conenct it and noticed immediate problems... The connection is different then my current setup. For the power I have just 4- Pinholes the WD HDD comes with 8 pinholes. plus the IDE cable connection is also different than my current setup.

Is this because I have an old comp (2001) and the connectors have been upgraded? or did I just bye a special kind of server HDD???

And if it is the first scenario where everythings been updated since then.... I need a new psu with the right lead or is there an adaptor and same with the mobo. Do i need a mobo with the right ide connection or is there an adaptor?

The HDD you bought is SATA interface. SATA allows for a faster data transfer rate compared to the slower IDE. It also has smaller power and data cables to allow better airflow through your case. What you probably wanted to order was a IDE HDD. Your solution would either be to buy something like This or to return it and buy another one.

SATA's look like this:

Where as IDE cables look like this:

WAit I don't understand how that converter works, The power plug still doesn't conform to the SATA standards.

:EDIT: Yeah I figured that's to convert my old IDE hardware into SATA devices. It's not backwards compatible. I doubt there would be a converter out there that would downgrade SATA to the old IDE standards. If there is help would be appreciated.

:EDIT2: I found loads of companies that offer the downgrade and found this particular one http://www.cooldrives.com/satoidecofor.html

Watch the second or first vid. Why is it that my WD HDD SATA comes with a 8 pin pwoer connecter and that product ignores it? I don't get it.
