Alerts on my screen

keep receiving alerts and warning which pop up on my screen every few minutes saying that my registry is corrupt and my computer is under threat .....dont know wot all this means

it comes from messenger service and always has a url at the bottom can anyone help?????

sounds like spyware to me, download spyware blaster, spybot search and destroy and Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal for good measure. update each of them and run scans. They also have features which help prevent future infection.
 
It's not spyware but a "feature" of Windows. The Messenger service is used so admins can send messages over a LAN, but MS thoughtfully made it addressable through the Internet as well. It is turned off by default on XP SP2. Spammers picked up on the fact and broadcast loads of annoying messages.

Type "net stop messenger" at the command prompt and they will go away, or use Shoot the Messenger.

Better still, get a firewall since you must be exposed on the net to be getting Messenger pop-up spam.
