Alienware vs. Gateway

Just wondering if anyone has any input about Gateway or Alienware's laptops...looking to get a nice gaming system before I go away for college...Both offer awesome customizing options, however there's a couple differences

Gateway only offers XP, Alienware offers XP or Vista
Gateway has better warranty/service plan options
Alienwares look cooler
Gateway can upgrade the stock 80gig HD to 7200rpm for only 50$ (from 5400)
It would take 200$ to upgrade to a 7200rpm HD in an alienware

I built the exact same laptop with both companies and Gateway was about 200$ cheaper, but I would feel more comfortable buying a gaming laptop from alienware since that's all they make.
 
I just got a Gateway laptop, model MT3707. I was actually worried about the harddrive filling up for reasons that I didn't know of, but I think that it is just setting restore points. Mine has a 160 gb hd, 1 gb of ram, dual 1.6 ghz processors, and a 256 mb ati radeon graphics card (64 mb dedicated). It has Vista Home Premium. I like it A LOT! The graphics are good, but mine can get choppy on Mafia (requires 32 mb). Although, on Postal 2, it requires 64 mb, and it doesn't get choppy what so ever, so maybe its just Mafia. I am totally happy with its performance. I don't know about Alien Ware, although many people feel that they are the best. Gateway is (or at least use to be) also a very reputable company and was known as one of the best. I hope this helps.

Newer laptops are usually easily upgradeable, i.e. you can remove the hard drive without taking the whole thing apart, unlike the older ones. There shouldn't be any seals to break or anything, so if you have to have it worked on, you can throw the old drive back in, no problem.

I'd rather just not mess with it. I think I'm going with an alienware.
 
Alienware definitely got better about build quality, they look nice in a non corporate environment and offer WAY better graphics solutions. But I have my doubts that Alienware has near the battery life of most Gateway models.
