all burns will fail

hi,
i've recently been borrowed a computer by someone who didn't care much about its cd-burner. fact is, not a burn will work, errors depend on what's being burnt: films will fail, audio are supposedly successfull but can't be read afterward although the device is working fine as a player.
the burner is a 52x/32x/52x by LG Systems but i can't exactly tell what the reference is. anyway, it's being shown in device manager as HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8525B.
i'm just using nero as i always successfully did with the computer of mine... what can be wrong?

thx for your help

1. Are there any error logs? if so, include them
2. It could just be the drive is dead, cheap drives (like LG ones like what youve got) tend to not last so long
3. It could be crummy media ... see ATIP in the CD/DVD 101 and post the media code :)

forget about it, i'm a dumbass... nero was burning on the virtual device and the error while burning a movie was just a flashback of what happened when i tried to overburn, which the burner ain't meant for...
alright, you can kick my ass now :p ouch!
