Allright guys, how does this look?

What's up guys? Well we're gonna upgrade my sister's comp and we've decided (haha not really! :p) that I'm gonna give her my current CPU/mobo/RAM and instead of my dad giving my sister some money to buy her stuff, he's gonna give it to me.

So I was thinking of the E2160 for my upgrade. How does this look?

Which mobo should I get? Is there really a big difference? Cause the cheaper the better! :D

Also, when OC'ed will it perform better than the X2 3800+?

Thanks guys! :D

I'd go with the P31. Less onboard USB ports and audio options from the P35 are the differences, I believe. Yes, it'll definitely perform better overclocked, although I'm not sure if your sister needs it OC'd. Everything else looks great, IMO. What about the PSU, HD, Optical drive, etc.?

Oh hehe, the E2160 build would be for me! The X2 3800+ (which I currently have) would go towards my sister. I already have everything else I am just gonna upgrade her comp with my current CPU/mobo/RAM. And my dad's probably gonna help me with some $$ for my Intel build... ;)

Oh, I see. Yeah, the E2160 would be a nice upgrade. Get the DS3L, in that case. You'll probably use the additional USB ports, and, as you know, it's an awesome board. ;)

Yeah, it has tons of positive reviews on Newegg. And I guess it is also the better one at OC'ing or are they all the same?

The P31 and P35 are basically exactly the same. Just that the P31 series can only support a maximum of 4GB, while the P35 chipset can support up to 8GB.

I may need to update the BIOS to F4 for full support of the E2160. Is updating the BIOS hard?

No, updating (flashing) the BIOS is not difficult. You'll receive specific instructions in the mobo manual. There's several ways to do it. I doubt that you'll run into any problems with regard to the BIOS when installing the processor.

Go with the XMS2. You can run that RAM at 4-4-4-12. In fact, I ran mine at 4-4-4-4 2T. You'll save a lot of money in the long run with the rebate, not to mention it's probably better than the GSkill. :D

Yeah, definately go with the Corsair RAM.
Maybe get a little bit more even =P

Let's see, with the rebates, you could get 4 gigs of RAM for just a little more than the price of 2 gigs. which, now that I think about it, I might just get that RAM =P

^ Yeah I thought of that but I only have 32-bit windows and I don't think I need 4GB at the moment. If I ever need it I'll just buy a second pair and who knows, maybe they'll be even cheaper then!

Thanks guys, I'm going with Corsair then.

So here's the final list, any other comments?

GIGABYTE GA-P31-S3G
Intel Dual Core E2160
2GB Corsair XMS2 PC6400
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro

TOTAL: $226.81 US

lovely?

hey since you guys were talking about the p35, i was wondering if the one i'm getting can handle like a 1600FSB and stuff like a quad core later on, what ram speed can it handle, that kind of stuff

Lol hey guys.

Final question (I think! :p), should I get the P31-S3G or the P35-DS3L?? Leaning towards teh P31 since it's cheaper.

The difference between is $25 US

But I'm still thinking, what if I want to get more RAM in the long run, I think I might go P35 so if I want more RAM I just add another pair of 1GB instead of getting rid of the 2GB and having to buy the 4GB...

Hahaha so I'm back to P35-DS3L
