Alternatives to HP products

I have vowed never to own another HP product. I'd like to buy a new printer/scanner. I'd like some suggestions to alternatives, please.

What kind of printing are you doing? How often?

I would suggest Lexmark printers. I have bought them ever since I had issues with 2 HP printers I bought, both broke with a few months of buying them. I've never had any issues with Lexmarks. I have the pinnacle pro901 now. Good solid printer.

The Pinnacle Pro901 is a great home office printer, if you're going to do some photo printing, I would suggest taking a look at some Canon or Epson printers if that's more what you're looking for.

Laser or inkjet? Samsung and Brother make some pretty nice lasers...

Agree to what has been said so far. If your wanting laser I would go Brother or Samsung, and for anything inkjet go Epson. If your budget is up there the Artisan 837 and the Workforce 840 are very nice, and often are on sale for $200 or so.

HP have definitely got problems. I have automatic updates set and downloaded their latest printer software update, It stopped my "Solution Centre" from working, when I contacted support they said "my printer was out of warranty". Never mind their faulty software. I did a restore and never update their software, Why fix it if it aint broken? The "Toolbox" in Solution Centre never worked, but I can get at the tools through Devices and Printers.
