Tried searching for this but didn't find anything on it. How often do you guys turn off your computer? I have always left mine on unless it needs to be restarted but never really knew how often it should be turned off, for how long, etc...

it is a good idea to restart it every now and then but leaving it on 24/7 is perfectly fine. mine is always on and i only restart if i have an issue with something.
 
Yeah when i leave my on for lets say few days i do restart it at least once a day. My other PC stays on most of the time. So there is not a rule how long to keep your PC on.
 
my pc usally get turned on around 8 AM, and ALWAYs get shut down at night when i go to sleep. i unno i just think its bad to keep ur machine running.
 
I have mine set to hibernate after a while, which shuts it off, but without technically rebooting. I let it fully reboot after virus scans, defrags, updates, installs, and the like.

when you say reboot and you guys say restart do you mean actually mean powering down and on or just a restart
 
Reboot to me typically means the one where it never actually powers off, but it's common for people to use it either way.

In my case, I almost never have it shut down and powered off. I hate waiting on it to boot up again.

I have a hibernate timer setup, I last rebooted 5 days ago. Windows 7 is really stable, I have my two F@H rigs running it, and XP wouldn't be able to handle being on all the time. I remember when I had XP on one of them, left it on, just idling for a week, dude it was so slow when I came back. With 7 running on my home rig, I hardly ever restart, I prefer to put it to sleep and turn off the monitor now and then. And it only takes 20 seconds for my system to boot anyway, which isn't a big deal, but having the system on all the time has its benefits. Like getting stuff from my shared folders when I need it. I think the saying "A restart a day keeps the bugs away" needs to be changed now that we have 7. Maybe a biannual reboot. I know the server OS never needs rebooting unless you install updates or something, and I have found that with XP and 7 you can remove and install most hardware with the computer on. I have heard of special servers that you can even hot-remove CPUs on a multiple CPU setup.
 
I have mine in standby most of the time. I reboot it a couple of times a week.
Standby will let your drives spin down and stop and it also sends no signal to your video screen so it can stop running the fluorescent display.
