I don't know much about the buying ascpects but here is what I want in a laptop:

14" to 15" screen(or thereabouts)
bluetooth capabilities
intel chip 13, 15, or 17(unless it doesn't matter what kind of chip)
4GB RAM
at least 250GB hard drive
built in wireless card
built in CD-Rom and floppy drives
DVD_ROM
lithium battery

I will need to be able to download pictures from a camera for a web page. I also will want to watch youtube videos. I assume with the above list I will be able to watch DVD movies. I don't want to spend more than $600. The less expensive the better. I assume the built in wireless card will enable me to use the computer anywhere. All suggestions are welcome

I might add that I won't be using the laptop for gaming so I won't need a lot of extra what is required for that.

I would suggest looking at some of the Computer shops and the like around you. You will not need 4GB RAM, unless you do a lot of gaming, Or a lot of internet surfing.

I am currently running 2GB and i am not having an issue with YouTube.

I'd pick something that doesn't have Intel HD graphics, purely because Intel are lacking the GPU department, even for things like videos.
What kind of videos are we talking about? I've never ever had any issues playing video with Intel graphics, and it will definitely do just fine for youtube.

HDMI out to at 1920*1080 running a standard DVD would lag (ran at around 5-7 FPS) on a P6200 processor.
Another thing to think about is that he said that he plans to do some gaming, and even some dedicated cards cant do that well (20FPS at 1366*768 on BC2 medium settings overclocked GT540m).

you get what you pay for though. Acer is cheap, and thats what you get.
They are poor quality, and have way to many software glitches in them. Not to mention that you are responsible for shipping and labor on any warranty repairs (they cover the parts only).
