Ok, but that's not what I asked of you. I asked you to take the different combinations... 2 sticks of 1GB... 2 sticks of 512MB... 4 sticks of 512MB and run benchmarks for all the combinations. Then compare them.

Do a search on http://www.dogpile.com/ for a newer shareware version of SiSoft that will work. I've never had any problems, so you should be able to find one that will install. That one you have won't give us the information we need.
 
Do you currently have a pair of Corsair xms series matched pair CMX512-3200 C2s you can ship here for the 4 dimm benchmark? The current pair will be going onto another case to upgrade someone else so you better hurry. The next build will most likely see DDR2 then.
 
Until you can talk numbers and provide evidence to back up your case, maybe in this case it is best to not talk at all. I say this considering the evidence from the internet that HAS been provided does not back you up.

My Windows XP computer doesn't recognise 1GB of RAM when 4GBs are installed

Problem​
I have a new PC with an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ (dual-core) processor, running Windows XP Pro SP2. I had 2GB of RAM installed, then installed another 2GB, but the system can only recognise 3GB. A search of the MS Knowledge Base has left me no wiser. If I can't get the 1GB to work, I'll have to exchange the two 1GB DIMMS for two 512MB DIMMS. What's the point of a motherboard that can take four 1GB DIMM modules if Windows XP Pro doesn't recognise that much?​

Oh, I know damn well that memory controllers can have problems with 4 DIMMs installed. I have seen it... But that is not the point... That is but a red herring. :)

Maybe you should look over your quotes a bit before you post them, because that one just disprooved you. Windows not recognizing 4 Gb of memory isn't because your running 4 DIMMS. Its because 32 bit OSs don't recognize over 3.6 Gb of RAM. Hmmm....

If you went to the link and read the article you would have known that wasn't a quote here about having 4 dimms installed. That was an inquiry included in the article with the full answer provided after. The point is that increasing the size of ram with the same number of dimms installed see far less problems come up over increasing the number to increase ram that way. I've already run boards with the dimm slots filled.
