I've got a 2004 version of Norton Antivirus and also a 2004 Norton Internet Security installed on my PC. I'm running XP Pro and I have the Microsoft AntiSpyware Bete program installed. Windows firewall is off--Norton is my firewall.

I keep my subscription paid up at Symantec and I have everything set to automatically update. Windows XP, Windows Spyware, Norton--it's all current and auto-updates frequently.

I just ran hijackthis, and I didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

I hear so many people saying that Norton sucks--yadda yadda yadda, but then I hear others say that as long as you keep it updated, that Norton is fine.

I'm worried:confused: I just put this machine together recently, and I don't want it getting all goofed up. I spent lots of money to get authentic XP software, and a lot of money on the hardware. The whole machine is new--only about 1 month old.

Yeh you should be fine.
Just becareful of what you download, especially .exe files
Keep running scans and your sweet

The only reason people diss Norton is because it costs money. There are free anti-virus softwares that will also keep you just as secure. Norton is a fine program if you can afford it and don't mind it using up alot of resources on your computer, it will keep you safe.

Nortan doesn;t use up many resources at all...

Also one GOOD thing about nortan, sort of, is that if you buy right it'll only cost you the first time, after that you can find deals, with a mail in rebate, and then a upgrade mail in rebate and get it for free.

I would also use some anti-spyware programs but you don't have to.

I'm running Microsoft Anti-Spyware. Straight from Microsoft and available free for any user with genuine software.

It runs everyday. Never picks up anything.

I got BOTH my Norton Antivirus and my Norton Internet Security for $35. Yup--BOTH of them for $35 shipped to my front door. Thats NOT $35 apiece. I got 'em BOTH for $35. The Antivirus and the Internet Security kinda of siamese into 1 program and run together. They both appear in the same screen and 1 is mainly for malware and email monitoring. The other blocks trojan horses, virus' and worms. They appear to work very well together--but thats why I started this thread. I wasn't sure if I was really safe or not.

I don't see how anyone could complain about a price like that.

Thanks for the help.

well, it does use up between 20-50MB of ram, and some would consider that a lot.

And sometimes you can get norton for free after rebates.

I currently use all freeware software, and many people on here already know what that is, since I talk about it a lot... I have Anti-Vir for my anti-virus, works better than anything that I have found, including Norton, McAfee (don't EVER get this), Kaperspy, and various others... As for adware/spyware, I use a combo of Ad-Aware and SpyBot, both are available at download.com.

Overall, you're fine, but if you're willing to experiment, all of these suggestions are viable options to follow...

Why are you resurrecting this thread? And when the topic starter is online! are you the same person:-) Thread closed.
