Am I the admin?

Hi,

For future reference, my laptop was passed down to me.

My account is the only account on there, It will also say I am the admin in the User settings, but when I would try to install a certain program, it would ask me for the admin password. I did not know the password and neither did the person who gave it to me. So I Ran OphCrack and Hiren’s all in 1 boot tools 9.1v to find the password. OphCrack failed to find it. Hiren’s boot tools found the account but not the password so I had it clear the password.

I ran vista and it opened up a login screen asking if I wanted to log into my account or the administrators account. I log into my own account and it still says I’m administrator

I deactivated the extra account using Hiren's and my problem still exists. The extra account is gone but I still can't install that program. It asks for the admin password, I leave it blank ( assuming that is what it will be at that point ) and it says it is incorrect

if anyone can help me, that would be awesome :) thank you

Wait so you're saying that the password you use to log in doesn't work when it asks for the administrator password?

Thanks for your post.

Is this your Problem too??

If your the admin and have not used a password in the past you might want to create another profile and try that. Booting with the new one. I had something similar in the past. Might even have to boot in safe mode and create then restart and try. the profile might be corrupted. I have many profiles for back up.

Okay, for anyone else with this problem. I slept on it last night, and I happened to remember that when windows XP came out, during the install of XP it would ask for a new user, and you can set the user up with admin rights but not as the actual admin.

So what I think I might have to do is enable the admin account temporarily to install the software I need.

If you are the admin i would create the new account and maybe a couple of them.
If it works you can delete your orginal profile and use the new account. As mentioned
i have backup accounts for corruption. Or will or maybe be a new install.

Do not enable the hidden admin account. If that account is screwed up there will be no way to access your account in safe mode if something would happen to the system.

What I would do is do a fresh install of windows and you should have no issues.
