hi i am upgrading my pc i have a amd 4000+ socket 939 cpu
my upgrade will be am2 what i need to ask is there are two cpus in my budget i can go for the first is
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ 2.40GHz it cost £166. the other is

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ 2.60GHz it costs £223.
is it worth going for the 5000+ at an extra £60. or would i be better going for
the 4600+ also am i likely to see a big diffrence between these and my old 4000+ socket 939 cpu thanks for any advice

If you get a decent motherboard and a AM2 X2 3800, you can easily overclock it up to 2.4ghz, saving yo some cash.

If youre not going to overclock, then, well, I guess you're getting an 8.33% increase in clock speed for a 34.33% increase in price. So, doesnt seem worth it.

Also, depending on the other parts of your system, its possible to not see ANY benefit with going for the 5000.

You will see a difference between the two cpu's, especailly when you have alot of programs open at once. IMO, I would get the X2 4600+, because the X2 5000+ plus costs $xx more and it is only a 200Mhz jump. Also what motherboard are you going to pair it up with?

the mobo i am getting is this
Asus M2N32-SLi-DLX nForce 590 SLi and the memory is this
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX
graphics are EVGA GeForce 7950 GX2 SuperClocked 1024MB GDDR3
plus 2x maxtor diamandmax 10 sata11 300gb hdd on raid 0
