Right now i have an AMD processor socket AM2 for my motherboard. There are socket AM2+ processors out now. Would they fit into my AM2 motherboard?
-thanks

I have heard however that some mobo manufacturers and some specific boards are not compatible with AM2+ processors. I believe some needed or will need a bios flash, etc. Really unsure, but I figured I could throw in my limited knowledge before others chime in with exact details.

For the most part AM2 boards with a bios update to run the Phenom X3 and X4 are buggie at best or flat out dont work or are very limited on what Phenom they can actually run.

Board: MSI MS-7250 1.0
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 080014 05/18/2006
(That is from Bell Arc Advisor because i couldnt remeber off the top of my head. Should be right)

I still run a socket 939 based PC so you have one up on me.
I have no plans to upgrade soon because it's plenty fast enough for me.
I'm not a big gamer except an occasional driving game. It runs them just fine.
I do have a couple of Raptors in RAID 0 so it's not slow by all means.
Once the AM2+ quad cores hit a true 3.0ghz each core, I might be inclined to upgrade.

The AMD X2 6000+ and X2 6400+ are at a true 3.0ghz and 3.2ghz each core so I would say that it won't take them long to reach 3.0ghz on the Phenoms.
I will wait a little after that, then upgrade.
