AM2 vs Conroe... What Should I Do?

Hey guys. If you have been here for the past 3-4 months then you have probably heard me say the word "AM2" a million times. Now I'm stuck... Conroe has very promising lab results (I began to salivate when I saw them:D ) but I know that Conroe is far away.

Question: Should I wait for Conroe? If so, I'm not sure my computer will take any more of a beating (by games). But, if I go for AM2, am I going to miss out on Conroe?

What do you guys think I should do? This is a huge decision for me, as it is going to be a 2000+ machine:eek:

Conroe E6700 (2.67GHz/1066MHzFSB 4MB Cache) - $530

beats getting a $700 AM2 AMD X2...

but idk, man... we haven't seen wut the AMD AM2 FX benchmarks... i know they are doing it at 3GHz...
 
The conroe's will cost anywhere from $209 to $519. It's a very resonable price, especially for its performance.

Conroe E6700 2.67GHz / 1066MHz FSB w/ 4MB Cache - $530
Conroe E6600 2.4GHz / 1066MHz FSB w/ 4MB Cache - $316
Conroe E6400 2.13GHz / 1066MHz FSB w/ 2MB Cache - $241
Conroe E6300 1.86GHz /1066MHz FSB w/ 2MB Cache - $209

if i get my money in time im getting the E6600... if i get it l8er than i anticipated, i will get the Kentsfield...(quad-core)... i am willing to spend up to $400 on my processor... but i am willing to stretch to up to $450 for quad-core...
 
...So when does Conroe come out? I see you guys favor Conroe :D

And when is this Kensfield suppose to come out?

Conroe is suppose to come out around Q3 of this year (August-September).

conroe comes out in Q3 of this year as Omega said and the Kentsfeild comes on Q1 of 2007
 
So Intel's quad-core is estimated at 450 correct? Damn... I hate technology... always changing and my wallet always stays empty :(

i really have no clue about the Kentsfield besides it is quad core and when it comes out... no clue about price... i am just thinking it might be that much... but i honoestly have no clue
 
Haha well if you're just guessing I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it might just be for workstations and will probably cost about 800+ for sure.
 
no the tigerton and clovertown are the quadcores being developed for workstations... the kentsfiled is for "normal desktops"
 
What are the frequencies? Has Intel released those specs out?

Also, no1 has answered my question yet :( lol

no one knows... currently the quad-cores area very quiet subject... i think we will learn lots more in the upcomming months
 
Do you think Intels going to come out with Conroe processors for laptops? Im thinking about saving up for an Acer laptop that comes with Core Duo Yohan but if Intels coming out with Conroe for laptops I can wait. :]

so the conroe E6700 is looking to retail at $530, or just over £300 Uk :O

Im absolutely shocked at that, Intel has so often been known for their high prices over AMD and its whats always stopped me from going with Intel.

If its seriously gonna come onto the market at about £300 then its definately my next build.

Sod it, I'll get two :D

conroe looks good... but i see people buying the conroe, and then 4 months later people wishing they waited for quad-cores comming out
