AM2 vs Conroe... What Should I Do?

Then another 4 months after that they will have a new quad-core, which has HT, so its like 8 cores... Point is, there will always be something better down the road, and theres no reason to keep waiting for these things to keep coming out.

Personally, i think the quad-cores would be crazy expensive, and that the conroes are very good, yet cheap.

that will be much the like the P4 extreme edition... aka lots of dough... moroso then the quad-core... it is just conroe dualcore to quad-core is 4 months... quad-core to real 8 core will prolly be about 1 year... so 6months more

even if thats true, most likely the quad-core is going to be much more expensive.

how much was the X2 3800+ when it first came out?
how much was the Pentium D 805 when it first came out?

Hmm... i think the X2 was around $400 for their low end cpu, but i see your point.

Then again, its quad-core.
 
I wonder how Intel made such a "god-like" CPU and they are selling it so cheap! So I ask again, should I just get AM2 in the next month or 2? Or should I just bite the bullet and wait until Q3? Conroe sounds very promising... almost too promising.

I would wait for the Conroe to come out and then decide if you want to go with AMD or Intel. If you have no patience then go get AM2.

do you think single core to dual core is as big a jump as dual-core to quad? i think it is...

dual had twice as many cores as single, and quad will double dual...

personally, i think that the only things that will upgrade with AM2 are:
1. DDR2. at 667mhz the ram will run faster. (but ddr2 533 seems to disappoint in most cases)
2. new cpu's. obviously, with a new socket, new cpu's will come out. with quad core processes will be processed much faster, literally twice as fast as dual core depending on what clockspeeds are reached. maybe a few hundred mhz will be gained with dual core too :)

however, i think that if you get a socket 939 dual core right now, it won't lag in any application for some years to come.

its more than just an upgrade in cpu speed... its an upgrade in cpu resources as well, and it will last much longer.
if you ask me, 939 will be good for sometime also because of pci-express. pci-express will be the video card interface for many years to come.

in 1996 having 2gb of harddrive wus the $h!t!!!now having 1TB is the $h!t!!!!

pci = 133mbps (.133gbps approx.)
agp = 2.1GBps
pci-express = 8 to 10GB/s

pci-express is about 4 times as fast as AGP, and they don't even use AGP's full bandwidth yet.

it has nothing to do with hard drive size, in case you didn't know ;)

AGP 1x, AGP 2x, AGP 4x, AGP 8x, AGP Pro, AGP Express, AGI, AGX or 64 bit AGP?

Sorry, I couldn't resist;).

You're right, though, PCI-E will probably last a while, albeit with an enhanced lane width.
 
I estimate about 3 years, considering how fast technology grows. Damn, can you imagine x32? Lol! Will the industry wait until all of x16 has been used up? AGP wasn't used up when they switched to PCI-E...
