AM2 is the socket, AMD's latest and x2 is the architecure of the chip, a dual core.
X2 is available on the AM2 socket and socket 939.
Think what you mean is what does the $10 difference in 939 and AM2 give you and as said above you can utilise ddr2 memory, do a search on AM2 to find the other benefits.
