AM3 build, thoughts??

AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1090T Black Edition 3.20GHz = £217

Cooler Master V10 TEC Hybrid CPU Cooler = £90

Asus M4N98TD EVO nForce 980a SLI (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard = £110

(mobo would be replaced with a higher end sli mobo once they become more popular within £200 price range)

Kingston HyperX T1 Series XMP 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 16000C9 (2000MHz) = £100

OCZ Vertex 2E 90GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive = £211

i have already got a gtx 460 768mb so i will be buying another for sli goodness, what do you think of the build?

should be good performance right? and a chepaer route than i7?
 
Generally speaking it looks good, wouldnt go with the V10 though, TEC's are horribly ineffecient and will just add to power usage and heat dump onto other components, the V6 is an excellent air cooler, as is the venomous-X, prolimatech megahalems, Noctua, Cogage Arrow, etc.

Also, depending on what it costs, the 1055T is a pretty great processor as well, might not overclock quite as good as the 1090T but price/performance wise its a bit better. In multithreaded applications, yes, the Phenom II X6's generally beat the intel i7's.

As for 2000mhz memory.....your gonna have a tough time getting to clocked to 2000mhz on an AMD processor, a low cas 1600mhz memory is generally the better option for AMD processors. Don't hold your breath for any "better" motherboards to come to market, as honestly 980a is just 780a with a different name, there isnt a large demand for SLI boards with AMD, and lets face it, nForce chipsets are pretty terrible.
 
From what I understand, the 980a will be the last AMD Nvidia chipset. I heard that AMD is going the Intel route and shutting Nvidia down on the Bulldozer platform. AMD is probably interested in how the Intel/Nvidia lawsuit will turn out. Think Nvidia has really already shutdown its chipset division.

As for right now, i know nvidia has their intel chipset division shut down, and yeah, 980a does appear to be nvidias last chipset for AMD.
 
In stutdown I meant future development on Intel/AMD chipsets. Kinda of a shame, in the day Nvidia could make a good chipset. Lots of people only look at the ATI buy out for the GPU but they got a decent chipset division with it. (AMD sucked at chipsets):D.

Hehe, yeah AMD never had amazing chipsets. Although, in the past years nvidia really hasnt had any decent chipsets, nForce 4 was about the last decent chipset IMO. Only reason i went with nvidia when i built my current rig was i was planning on tri sli 9800gtx's back when they came out....then ran out of money, hehe. Not that i really regret it other than overclocking and such, as the slot layout is perfect for my current setup(2 gpu's, PCIE nic, PCIE tuner card, and a PCI sound card).
