i have an ati radeon 6950 2GB graphics card, and my driver version is only 11.5. whenever i open battlefield 3 it tells me to update my drivers to 11.7 or later. so i go onto the amd website and download the latest drivers. i then run the setup, it starts to extract all of the files then once it does it just closes and nothing happens. i have tried many times and restarted my computer but still no luck. please help, i have windows 7 64 bit. thanks.

I have them running on my 6950. I didn't download the whole package I downloaded just the parts that I needed on the Individual downloads tab.

tes.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx#2

I downloaded the display driver, Open CL Driver, and the one of the CCCs (pick your favorite)

Did you uninstall your old drivers before installing the new ones?

i clicked the link but it doesn't go to anything? and how do i uninstall my drivers and what should it be called? if the link is for the newest drivers i already have all of them downloaded.

If all its doing is unpacking them. Click Start, Click Computer, Double click Local Disk, It should be there in the ATI folder. If so open the folder and click the setup file. On the first run pick uninstall, after it uninstalls the old drivers, restart. Go back to the folder and run the setup file again and pick install this time.

  1. Set a System Restore Point.
  2. Download the new ATi driver to your desktop - don't run it yet.
  3. Download Driversweeper and install it - don't run it yet.
  4. Uninstall via Control Panel - Add and Remove Programmes, ATi drivers.
  5. Run Driver sweeper for ATi. Click Clean and restart.
  6. Once restarted right click on the ATi driver you downloaded and Run as Administrator.
  7. Once installed restart.
  8. Done.

No offence bigfellla, but I tend to avoid suggesting driver sweeper. It has caused me problems in the past.

A simpler way to do ati drivers, and guaranteed not to modify anything else, is to run the Catalyst Install Manager from Add/Remove Programs. It will let you uninstall and install the ATI drivers.

Here's how I do it:

1) Download the latest driver suite
2) Run the installer and select uninstall
3) Select custom and make sure all options are checked
4) Once that is done, you will be prompted to reboot. Don't reboot just yet.
5) The Installer will close, run it again, and this time select Install
6) Again, select custom and make sure that all options are checked.
7) The drivers will install and at the end you will be prompted to reboot again. Do this now.

After that, you'll have the new drivers installed.

ok, so i tried doing what you said linkin. i open up the install manager and it says this "The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is not correct. please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.

Never seen that error before.

I suggest you download the latest package again, then run the installer. From there, select uninstall then follow the rest of the steps.

Error message: "Side-by-side configuration is incorrect"
