AMD 6000+ Temp Issues

like how close? maybe an inch and a half could even affect you, any closer and noticable increases in temperature would surely come

Well I just picked up an adapter at a local store to locate my HDD into a 5.25" slot so i'm gonna do that to clean up some of the wires that are directly in front of the zalman. As of right now the wires are a jumbled mess about 2 inches in front of the intake of the fan so I think that could be doing a little harm. The guy gave me the adapter for 2 bucks so if it gives me 1 or 2 deg it was worth the money haha.

Ok so fixing all of the cables didnt really do anything. My temps are about 46 and 45 now. And now the front of my case looks stupid because I cant get my drive cover on with this HDD adapter haha, atleast my HDD gets plenty of fresh air. And to top it off I just realized I left my AS5 at home (i'm up at school now) during winter break so even if I wanted to reseat my zalman I would have to go spend 7-8 bucks on that. I'm baffled, I dont even know what to do. I'm now wondering if I did have a bad board from newegg and they said they replaced it and actually didn't (I didnt think to write down the old serial number before I sent it, Dumb!).

Oh and on a side note incase anyone thinks its because I have my case side off, with it on after the cables are cleaned up and the fan is now maxed out my idle temp is 50 DEG!!! This sucks, my case is nice and quiet with the side on but I cant do that because it gets so hot. I know my case isn't the most free flowing but I think 2 80mm intakes and 2 80mm exhausts are decent for something thats not OCed or anything.

I havent read the whole thread, but dude, how many posts do you want to make rofl.

If you have a zalman and your idling @ those temps, either

learn how to apply paste or mount a heatsink

Make sure your motherboard isnt bending badly

How hot is your room?

Failing those, youve either got a bad sensor, or you H/s is screwed or your chip is making little or no contact with the IHS

Haha, I only had one class today so i'm bored and posting alot.

The zalman seems like its mounted pretty good and i've read tons of ways to apply the thermal paste, and just picked one (the one where you spread it over the whole cpu in thin paper-like layer).

As for the mobo, its hard to see, but it doesn't appear to be bending at all.

My room temp isn't too bad, I dont have a thermostat in here (crappy apartment haha). I'm in Michigan and I pretty much leave my window cracked all the time.

does the base of your heatsink feel warm at all?

Thats another thing I totally forgot to mention. The base of my heatsink does not feel very warm, just slightly warm on the back of my finger. While on the other hand, all of my software say my north/south-bridge (they call it mainboard, I think thats the chips though) are at about 32deg. Now when I touch those they are very hot to the touch on the back of my finger. Granted it is easier to get in a touch those because it is passive cooling.

Wouldnt you think that would cause any higher temperature during load?

Ok and something else really really weird. I downloaded AMD OverDrive because its supposed to have a good stability test, and ran it. Went for one hour, both cores maxed out and the temp was about 43-44 the whole test, maxed at 45 during it. Right when it ends the temp actually rose to 46 and it is still sitting at about 45-46. I just dont understand how even if the heatsink isnt seated well, why wouldn't it give me higher load temps that idle. I guess the only thing left to do is to reseat the zalman.

I,m begining to think that your temp. sensor on the CPU socket is bad or your not quite getting your heatsink right. You are pushing down the lever on the heatsink till it clicks in place.

Yeah I think there's only a couple of things left. Either Newegg didn't in fact replace my board when they said they did and it still has a bad sensor. Or, the zalman is not seating right because it needs to be lapped better. I have read a few times today that they have had a few of these happen, just sucks that it probably happened to me, haha. I cant do anything like re-lapping the heatsink while i'm up here at school because I have no supplies, so I guess i'll have to wait til I go home.
