AMD 7000 series vs Nvidia 600 series

So we all know that Nvidia rules as king on the dual and single GPU cards this generation, but what about the 7000 and 600 series from AMD and Nvidia?

When Nvidia's GTX 560Ti is neck and neck with AMD's second fastest single GPU(6950)that says alot in my book.I mean, AMD seems to like coming in second all the time,CPU's and GPU's.I personaly think AMD is doing better with there GPU's than there CPU's. I hope AMD changes the game with Bulldozer and never look back.

But anyways...so who ya'll think is going to rule the GPU wars on the 7000 and 600 series from AMD and Nvidia? I read that AMD 7000 GPU's will be PCI-Express Generation 3 compliant, which is good because it doubles the bandwidth over PCI-E 2.0.But I also read that Intel will be the first to the market with the PCI-Express 3.0 with there new Sandy Bridge-E Mobo's.

Im counting on AMD to change the game forever,GO AMD!

How do you figure that Nvidia rules in the dual and single GPU? True the GTX 580 kinda stands on its own. But the 6990 and 590 are pretty much equal. Plus all other models in single GPUs have there counter parts that are pretty equal.

and remember that the 6950 can become a 6970 with a simple low overclock and a shader unlock, which changes the comparison to this

which the 6970 wins in almost all.

As discussed in many other threads that not all the HD6950s can be shader unlocked. So that can not be counted as a pro.

As far as the HD 6970 is concerned, at resolutions 1920x1080 the GTX 570(1280mb) gives it a hard time, and they perform neck to neck, but past that resolutions the HD 6970 performs better because of the higher VRAM.

But the HD 6950 is a nice card and then the HD6870 is also really amazing card since NVIDIA GTX 5xx does not offer anything in that range, and I would go for the HD6990 any day over the GTX 590. And NVIDIA definitely is not the clear winner.

And as strangle said AMD does not have a card to go against the GTX 580 in their HD6xxx series.

Even thought the GTX 580 is the best performing single GPU, But that is not what market competition is about. It would be like who can offer the best performance in the lowest price.

LIES!! :P

The 6950 WAS the best option in the price range, however now with the 560Ti being very slightly cheaper than a 6950 (over here ~£20 cheaper), having almost identical performance, better overclocking potential, using less power, producing less heat and being smaller, it is the much better choice. If the pricing was the other way round, the 6950 would be the better option, but even if the prices are equal, I would take a 560 Ti in a heartbeat, because it will overclock to give more performance than an overclocked 6950.

For what OP said, 6970 nearly = 570, performance is just slighty below Nvidia, but then so is the price. The 580 is there to make a statement from Nvidia for marketing to say "we have the most powerful GPU", and nothing more. It isn't really a practical choice, and the performance doesn't justify the price. you then look at the dual GPU cards, and they are pretty much equal, but AMD's runs cooler, uses less power and is (last I checked) cheaper, so they have that niche market tied up

not sure where you're getting that info from but look at this

In that benchmark it has the 560 and the 6950 trading blows with each other.

You need a reference card to unlock it, and everyday it gets harder to get one.Newegg(and other major retailers) is carring less and less reference cards by the day.

The point is, your statement is not true. Nvidia GTX 580 is the only card they have that AMD has no counterpart. So Nvidia (doesnt) rules as king on the dual and single GPU cards. Having the 580 does not mean you really rule anything.

No,the point is nvidia has the fastest single GPU out, which is the gtx580, regardless if it has a counterpart or not.For the 6990 vs the 590, they are neck and neck, with the 590 coming out on top by a nose hair.

I am sorry I was not clear, I thought my statement would lead to something like this.
It is an ambiguous statement or my poor grammar/puncutation.
But the HD 6950 is a nice card and then the HD6870 is also really amazing card since NVIDIA GTX 5xx does not offer anything in that(HD 6870 only) range
I only meant it for the HD 6870 not for the HD 6950.
As I myself have said in many threads the GTX 560Ti performs neck to neck compared to the HD6950.

And about the HD 6990 being cheap, it is officially cheaper but since it's lack of availability people are selling it at crazy prices on ebay and amazon. Yesterday when I checked they did not even have it listed on newegg :(

They do make a 6950 1gb. thats the same price as the 560Ti. And doesnt hurt the performance unless at really high resolutions.
