AMD 790GX or 790FX?

So, I know the main differences between the boards using GX and FX. However, I still need to know which will be better to get. I have made up my mind that I'm getting the Phenom II X4 940 along with 4GB DDR2 1066 RAM, but I can't decide on the motherboard.

The only real differences I can see are that the FX have 4 PCI-E x16 slots, where when 2 slots are used they'll run at x16 speed and when 4 are used they'll all run at x8 speed. I also know that the GX comes with integrated graphics (not that I need it...I'm using an HD 4870) and the FX doesn't. Also, I know that a PCI-E x16 2.0 running at x8 will still be an equivalent of x16 in a PCI-E 1.0 slot.

My big question is this: Is it worth getting the ASUS $200 790FX (will check the model later) or a cheaper MSI/ASUS $140-150 790GX motherboard?

Another question, which MOBO would OC better? both I'm looking at come with the SB750 chipset.
 
If I was going to get a motherboard I wouldn't bother with a 790X, it seems like they're being phased out for some reason. I would just get a GX, especially since I could run a Dragon platform if I got one (not that it really does anything...).

In addition, I don't plan on running Crossfire, I don't have the money to get a second HD 4870.

My only worry about the GX was that it wouldn't be futureproofed for some reason...but I see that's stupid. I'll probably get either the GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-DS4H or ASUS M3A78-T, but the Gigabyte comes with free shipping and it's been used in a bunch of reviews I've seen.

If I were to go FX I'd probably end up getting the ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe or the MSI K9A2 Platinum. However, the latter comes only with the SB600, not the 750, and I hear the 750 OCs much better. Last, can anyone tell me anything about the DFI LP DK 790FXB-M2RSH? It's a fair amount cheaper than the ASUS, but comes with the SB750.
 
I read somewhere that the k9a2 plat has problems with larger gfx cards. I hear it might block some of the sata ports or something,

Actually that's true, one of the cooling pipes or something is in the way. However, because of the 2 PCI-E x16 2.0 you could put the card in the bottom one and it wouldn't be blocked because only the top one is. In addition, some people said that they bent it away and it didn't have any adverse effects.
 
Ok, I've narrowed my MOBO choices down to these MOBOs:

For 790FX:

DFI LP DK 790FXB-M2RSH

For 790GX:

DFI LANPARTY DK 790GX-M2RS

or

GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-DS4H

or

ASUS M3A78-T

Before I started with this I never thought that DFI was that great a brand, but all things have pointed differently.

So, can anyone give me feedback on these?

Ok then, from everything I've checked out it is much more worth getting an SB750 board since they really do OC the Phenoms better. I've taken the K9A2 Platinum off the list because of this.
 
there is a combo with P2 FOR GIGABYTE BOARDA:D Plus that board is pretty lots of copper shiny copper

So I will DEFINITELY be getting a DFI board, they just seem to be the best. I just need to know if it's worth spending the extra $20 on the FX board.

Also, can anyone recommend a good heatsink (preferably less than $40) for the Phenom II? I'm looking to do some good OCing, so I need a nice one.
 
Change of plans guys, I'm 99% sure that I'm going for the ASUS M3A78-T now. It's $40 cheaper than the DFI in a combo deal with the CPU and I don't think I could handle all of the DFI overclocking options.

Unless anybody has anything else to say, this is what I'm going for.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that they're BETTER...DFI clearly has a better reputation for OCers and gamers. Of course I don't want to spend the extra cash and have heard great things about the ASUS, so that's what I'm going with.
 
if you're getting a video card w/ then go with the fx, otherwise go with the gx. they're very similar besides that the fx has no onboard video.
